Seed ageing and meiotic chromosomal abnormalities in lettuce.
Meiotic chromosomal abnormalities observed in lettuce plants grown from aged seeds increased with the decrease in the viability of the seed lot. Univalents, fragments and a few cases of precocious segregation were observed in metaphase I. Abnormalities found at anaphase I and anaphase II included dicentric bridges with or without fragments, acentric ...

Four Loci on Abnormal Chromosome 10 Contribute to Meiotic Drive in Maize [PDF]
Abstract We provide a genetic analysis of the meiotic drive system on maize abnormal chromosome 10 (Ab10) that causes preferential segregation of specific chromosomal regions to the reproductive megaspore. The data indicate that at least four chromosomal regions contribute to meiotic drive, each providing distinct functions that can be ...

Conditional inactivation of the DNA damage response gene Hus1 in mouse testis reveals separable roles for components of the RAD9-RAD1-HUS1 complex in meiotic chromosome maintenance. [PDF]
The RAD9-RAD1-HUS1 (9-1-1) complex is a heterotrimeric PCNA-like clamp that responds to DNA damage in somatic cells by promoting DNA repair as well as ATR-dependent DNA damage checkpoint signaling.

EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Chromosomal Instability Drives Glioblastoma Heterogeneity and Therapeutic Opportunities
ABSTRACT Glioblastoma, the most aggressive and lethal form of brain cancer, is defined by profound genomic instability, with Chromosomal Instability (CIN) playing a central role in driving tumor progression, therapy resistance, and poor prognosis. CIN is characterized by numerical and structural alterations, is driven by mechanisms such as mitotic ...

Meiotic abnormalities in patients bearing complete AZFc deletion of Y chromosome [PDF]
We studied meiosis in three infertile patients presenting complete AZFc microdeletion and three controls.Primary spermatocytes were immunolabeled with SCP3, BRCA1 and gammaH2AX. We quantified the leptotene, zygotene and pachytene stages, and pachytene abnormalities: asynapsis and fragmented and dotted synaptonemal complexes (SCs).SCP3 level was ...

The multicopy gene Sly represses the sex chromosomes in the male mouse germline after meiosis. [PDF]
Studies of mice with Y chromosome long arm deficiencies suggest that the male-specific region (MSYq) encodes information required for sperm differentiation and postmeiotic sex chromatin repression (PSCR).

PSMA8‐Containing 20S Proteasome Regulates Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility
PSMA8 assembles s20S proteasome that degrades specific substrates in elongating spermatids. Degradation of s20S‐substrates activates translation of FXR1‐target mRNAs, which are essential for mitochondrial sheath formation and sperm morphogenesis.
