Meiotic chromosome behaviour in Cenchrus ciliaris
A basic chromosome number of x = 9 has been confirmed for Cenchrus ciliaris L. Polyploidy is common and levels vary from tetraploid to hexaploid. Aneuploidv is reported for a single specimen, where two chromosomes of a single genome were lost.

Making Two out of One: Kinesin Motors Driving Plant Cell Division
ABSTRACT The Kinesin superfamily of microtubule dependent motors is present in all eukaryotes. Not all of the subfamilies are represented in all kingdoms, and the ones that are do not always show conserved functions. Tight control of the cytoskeleton is essential for proper progression and completion of mitosis and cytokinesis, and key functions are ...

Meiotic behavior of wild Caricaceae species potentially suitable for papaya improvement
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the meiotic behavior and determine the meiotic index and pollen viability of representative plants of the wild species V. goudotiana, V. quercifolia and J. spinosa. Meiotic analysis confirmed that the species are

ABSTRACT Pollen is a male gametophyte of angiosperms. Following meiosis, the microspore undergoes an asymmetric division called pollen mitosis I (PMI), which produces two cells of different sizes: a large vegetative cell and a small generative cell. Polarized nuclear migration and positioning during PMI are important for successful pollen development ...

Assessment of Molecular Cytogenetic Methods for the Detection of Chromosomal Abnormalities [PDF]
Some marker chromosomes and chromosome rearrangements are difficult to identify using G-bands by Giemsa staining after trypsin treatment (G-banding) alone.

Diversity and abundance of the abnormal chromosome 10 meiotic drive complex in Zea mays [PDF]
Maize Abnormal chromosome 10 (Ab10) contains a classic meiotic drive system that exploits asymmetry of meiosis to preferentially transmit itself and other chromosomes containing specialized heterochromatic regions called knobs. The structure and diversity of the Ab10 meiotic drive haplotype is poorly understood.

ABSTRACT Cooperativity between cytoskeletal proteins is crucial for spatiotemporal coordination in biological processes, like oogenesis. In mammalian and Drosophila oogenesis, proper assembly and function of actin networks require coordination between actin assembly factors Spire and formins, as well as actin‐associated proteins like myosins and Rab ...

Effects of endogamy on microsporogenesis in popcorn
Inbred lines are necessary for the development of popcorn hybrids. Genes for several traits, among them those related to the meiotic process, approach homozygosis during inbreeding.
