Oocyte Meiotic Cell Division: Spindle Assembly, Chromosome Segregation, and Cytokinesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Meiosis, the specialized cell division process that results in haploid gamete formation, is characterized by a single round of genome duplication followed by two successive divisions.

CDK1 makes the meiotic spindle wait [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2013
![Figure][1] In an oocyte with enhanced CDK1 activity, every kinetochore (red) forms a stable, end-on attachment to a spindle microtubule (green). A delay in cyclin-dependent kinase activity prevents meiotic chromosomes from prematurely attaching to spindle microtubules, [Davydenko et ...

Roles of Tubulin Concentration during Prometaphase and Ran-GTP during Anaphase of Caenorhabditis elegans Meiosis

open access: yesLife Science Alliance
Tubulin dimers concentrate within an ER spindle envelope because cytoplasmic organelles outside the envelope occupy significant volume. In many animal species, the oocyte meiotic spindle, which is required for chromosome segregation, forms without ...

A Taz1- and Microtubule-Dependent Regulatory Relationship between Telomere and Centromere Positions in Bouquet Formation Secures Proper Meiotic Divisions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2016
During meiotic prophase, telomeres cluster, forming the bouquet chromosome arrangement, and facilitate homologous chromosome pairing. In fission yeast, bouquet formation requires switching of telomere and centromere positions.

Embryonic development of the Mediterranean starfish Hacelia attenuata

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Starfish play essential ecological roles as predators and ecosystem regulators; however, detailed developmental descriptions exist for only a handful of species, none of which are from the Mediterranean Sea. Results In this study, we provide the first full account of the development of the Mediterranean starfish Hacelia attenuata ...

Impact of Methylparaben on Cumulus Cell DNA Integrity and Porcine Oocyte Developmental Competence In Vitro

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Parabens (PBs) are compounds widely used as preservatives in personal care products, food, and pharmaceuticals. Methylparaben (MePB) is the most used by different industries due to its chemical properties and low cost. The high daily human exposure to these compounds has raised concerns about their potential effects on health, particularly on ...

Kinetochore size correlates with chromosome size in Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum kochii Parl., Asparagaceae)

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Cytogenetic quantification of KNL1‐labelled kinetochores in Ornithogalum kochii reveals a significant positive scaling relationship between chromosome size and kinetochore size, demonstrating that chromosome–kinetochore scaling operates even across moderate intra‐karyotype size variation.

Disrupted meiotic spindle configurations.

open access: yes, 2013
Note: Meiotic spindle configurations were evaluated by immunofluorescence analysis of individual oocytes that were fixed at the end of an 18-hour culture. Spindle microtubules were detected with anti-Ac-tubulin, and the DNA was labeled with DAPI.

Multiple Duties for Spindle Assembly Checkpoint Kinases in Meiosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2017
Cell division in mitosis and meiosis is governed by evolutionary highly conserved protein kinases and phosphatases, controlling the timely execution of key events such as nuclear envelope breakdown, spindle assembly, chromosome attachment to the spindle ...

Integrative Phosphoproteomic Profiling Reveals Stage‐Specific Signalling and Metabolism in Equine Melanocytic Neoplasm

open access: yesVeterinary and Comparative Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Equine melanocytic neoplasms (EMN) are aggressive tumours characterised by high metastatic potential and limited therapeutic options available. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying their progression remain poorly understood. This study therefore presents the integrative phosphoproteomic analysis of EMN tissue, with the aim of ...
