On the performance of a melamine–urea–formaldehyde resin for decorative paper coatings

European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2009
The decorative laminates industry is a highly competitive industrial sector. To be profitable, manufacturers of impregnated papers for surface laminated MDF and particleboards need to significantly reduce their production costs. Melamine formaldehyde resin (MF) formulations are commonly used for impregnation and coating of such papers, melamine being ...

Curing behavior of melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin adhesive

International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2015
Abstract In this work, MUF resin was tested by DMA method. It showed that G ′ curves and strain curves together could be used to predict the curing behavior of MUF resins. The study showed that sequential formulation was preferred for the preparation of MUF resins. Hardener could accelerate the curing of MUF resins.

The Performance of Melamine – Urea – Formaldehyde Resin with Palm Kernel as Filler

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Palm kernel meal (PKM) which is the by-products of palm oil industry consists of considerable amount of protein that showed its great potential to to be used as a filler of melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin based wood adhesive. Besides, due to the high price of melamine, it is attempted to reduce the content of melamine in MUF resins to as low as ...

Production of water tolerant melamine–urea–formaldehyde resin by incorporation of sodium metabisulphite

International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2016
Abstract The aim of this work was the development of a new MUF resin formulation with high tolerance towards water dilution, and a good overall performance in terms of physico-mechanical properties and formaldehyde emissions. For this purpose, sodium metabisulphite (MTBS) was added during melamine condensation reaction, therefore decreasing its ...

Synthesis and evaluation of low viscosity melamine urea formaldehyde for bulking treatment of wood

Journal of the Indian Academy of Wood Science, 2020
This study attempted to produce a low viscosity melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF) resin. The MUF resins were diluted into concentration of 20% and 30% based on solid content with different melamine contents (20 to 30%), formaldehyde contents (50 to 60%) and urea contents (15 to 25%).

Curing kinetics study of melamine–urea–formaldehyde resin/liquefied wood

Wood Science and Technology, 2012
The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of liquefied wood (LW) on the cure kinetics and network properties of melamine–urea–formaldehyde (MUF) resins by differential scanning calorimetry. The MUF/LW compounds exhibited two distinct cross-linking processes.

Effects of diatomite inorganic fillers on the properties of a melamine–urea–formaldehyde resin

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2016
ABSTRACTIn this study, a low‐cost diatomite was used to partly substitute wheat flour as one type of melamine–urea–formaldehyde (MUF) resin filler. Five‐ply plywood was fabricated, and its performance was measured. The crystallinity, fracture surface, and functional groups were tested to determine the effects of diatomite on the performance of the MUF ...

Synthesis and characterization of microencapsulated paraffin with melamine-urea-formaldehyde shell modified with lignin

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
The study aims to fabricate MUF/paraffin microcapsules with lignin nanoparticles (LNPs)/ melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin as hybrid shell material with different LNPs addition were synthesized in oil-in-water emulsion stabilized synergistically by styrene/maleic anhydride (SMA) and LNPs.

Improving characteristics of melamine–urea–formaldehyde resin by addition of blocked polyurethane prepolymer

European Journal of Wood and Wood Products, 2016
In this paper, the effect of blocked polyurethane prepolymer (BPUP) with four R values (the ratio of –NCO to –OH) and different blending proportions on the characteristics of melamine–urea–formaldehyde (MUF) resin were first investigated. The properties of the modified adhesive systems were examined by dynamic wettability and shear strength.

Melamine-urea-formaldehyde resins with low formaldehyde emission and resistance to boiling water

Pigment & Resin Technology, 2019
Purpose The purpose of the study was to prepare melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) resin that would be resistant to boiling water and high temperature and exhibit low formaldehyde emission. Design/methodology/approach The authors prepared MUF resin with different F/(M + U) and changed the amount of melamine added, through the analysis of MUF resin ...
