Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 1986 Peptides derived from ACHT and alpha-MSH are known to exert trophic influences on peripheral and central nervous structures. Age-related brain diseases may in part be related to loss of neural plasticity. Melanocortins improve adaptional abilities of the nervous system. Chronic treatment with melanocortins may counteract age-related brain pathology.
