Melanocortins and opiate addiction

Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) are centrally acting melanocortin peptides with numerous reported functions, including induction of excessive grooming and antipyresis, among others.
