A Compact Optical Instrument with Artificial Neural Network for pH Determination

open access: yesSensors, 2012
The aim of this work was the determination of pH with a sensor array-based optical portable instrument. This sensor array consists of eleven membranes with selective colour changes at different pH intervals.

Rational ion transport management mediated through membrane structures

open access: yesExploration, 2021
Unique membrane structures endow membranes with controlled ion transport properties in both biological and artificial systems, and they have shown broad application prospects from industrial production to biological interfaces.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

How Does Carbon Dioxide Permeate Cell Membranes?A discussion of concepts, results and methods.

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
We review briefly how the thinking about the permeation of gases, especially CO2, across cell and artificial lipid membranes has evolved during the last hundred years.

Preparation of artificial plasma membrane mimicking vesicles with lipid asymmetry. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Lipid asymmetry, the difference in lipid distribution across the lipid bilayer, is one of the most important features of eukaryotic cellular membranes.

Identifying and Manipulating Giant Vesicles: Review of Recent Approaches

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
Giant vesicles (GVs) are closed bilayer membranes that primarily comprise amphiphiles with diameters of more than 1 μm. Compared with regular vesicles (several tens of nanometers in size), GVs are of greater scientific interest as model cell membranes ...

Signature of a non-harmonic potential as revealed from a consistent shape and fluctuation analysis of an adherent membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The interaction of fluid membranes with a scaffold, which can be a planar surface or a more complex structure, is intrinsic to a number of systems - from artificial supported bilayers and vesicles to cellular membranes.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Validating Membrane Ageing Protocols: A Real‐World Perspective on Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Degradation

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Membranes are essential for an efficient and stable long‐term operation of the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB). Membrane degradation is one of the main limiting factors for VRFB lifetime because of the resulting increase in electrolyte crossover and ...
