Meperidine pharmacokinetics and effects on physiologic parameters and thermal threshold following intravenous administration of three doses to horses

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2020
Background Meperidine is a synthetic opioid that belongs to the phenylpiperidine class and is a weak mu receptor agonist. In horses there are a limited number of published studies describing the analgesic effects of systemically administered meperidine ...

Intrathecal meperidine reduces intraoperative shivering during transurethral prostatectomy in elderly patients [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2010
BackgroundShivering is a frequent event during the perioperative period. We performed a prospective, randomized, double-blind study to determine whether intrathecal meperidine (0.2 mg/kg) decreases the incidence and intensity of shivering after spinal ...

Adequate Anesthesia and More Effective Analgesia by Adjusted Doses of Bupivacaine during Cesarean Section: A Randomized Double-blind Clinical Trial [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2023
Background: Several adjuvants, added to local anesthetics, were suggested to induce an ideal regional block with high-quality analgesia. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the particular blocking properties of low-dose bupivacaine in combination ...

Comparison of meperidine and nefopam for prevention of shivering during spinal anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2013
BackgroundShivering is a frequent event during spinal anesthesia and meperidine is a well-known effective drug for prevention and treatment of shivering. Nefopam is a non-opiate analgesic and also known to have an anti-shivering effect.

Assessing the sedative effect of oral vs submucosal meperidine in pediatric dental patients

open access: yesDental Research Journal, 2013
Background: The goal of this investigation was to compare the behavioral and physiological effects of three sedative drug regimens: oral meperidine (OM), submucosal meperidine (SM) and oral midazolam (M) in healthy pediatric patients.

In silico prediction of novel effective combinational treatment of chronic pain in individual patients: A joint white paper of the H2020 QSPainRelief consortium

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Opioids are prescribed widely for chronic pain despite well‐recognised risks and variable long‐term benefit, reflecting the lack of effective alternatives for many patients. Combination therapies offer a promising strategy to enhance efficacy whilst reducing side effects.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast‐Based Supplement and Breast Milk Supply: A Randomised Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Maternal brewer's yeast supplementation did not change the milk oligosaccharide (HMO) concentration, but more mothers felt their milk supply was increased, and fewer reported formula use by 6 months postpartum compared to those taking the placebo. This suggests the supplement may support breastfeeding, warranting further investigation in larger trials.
