Real-space mesh techniques in density-functional theory [PDF]

open access: yesReviews of Modern Physics, 2000
This review discusses progress in efficient solvers which have as their foundation a representation in real space, either through finite-difference or finite-element formulations. The relationship of real-space approaches to linear-scaling electrostatics and electronic structure methods is first discussed.

Near-field properties of plasmonic nanostructures with high aspect ratio

open access: yes, 2014
Using the Green's dyad technique based on cuboidal meshing, we compute the electromagnetic field scattered by metal nanorods with high aspect ratio. We investigate the effect of the meshing shape on the numerical simulations. We observe that discretizing

Simulation of subseismic joint and fault networks using a heuristic mechanical model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Flow simulations of fractured and faulted reservoirs require representation of subseismic structures about which subsurface data are limited. We describe a method for simulating fracture growth that is mechanically based but heuristic, allowing for ...

Shape optimization of phononic band gap structures using the homogenization approach

open access: yes, 2017
The paper deals with optimization of the acoustic band gaps computed using the homogenized model of strongly heterogeneous elastic composite which is constituted by soft inclusions periodically distributed in stiff elastic matrix.

Resistive-force theory for mesh-like superhydrophobic surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Fluids, 2018
A common realization of superhydrophobic surfaces makes use of a mesh-like geometry, where pockets of air are trapped in a periodic array of holes in a no-slip solid substrate. We consider the small-solid-fraction limit where the ribs of the mesh are narrow.

Antiskid Design Method and Simulation Optimization of Rope Rail Conveyors

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2023
The rope rail conveyor has certain advantages over the belt conveyor in long-distance transportation, but the antiskid problem of its driving system has not been paid attention to.

Flipping Cubical Meshes

open access: yes, 2002
We define and examine flip operations for quadrilateral and hexahedral meshes, similar to the flipping transformations previously used in triangular and tetrahedral mesh generation.Comment: 20 pages, 24 figures.

T-Base: A Triangle-Based Iterative Algorithm for Smoothing Quadrilateral Meshes

open access: yes, 2012
We present a novel approach named TBase for smoothing planar and surface quadrilateral meshes. Our motivation is that the best shape of quadrilateral element (square) can be virtually divided into a pair of equilateral right triangles by any of its ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
