The Effect of Mestranol on Canine Reproduction [PDF]

open access: yesBiology of Reproduction, 1969
A single oral dose of mestranol (l7ct-ethynylestradiol 3-methyl ether) was administered to two groups of eight adult female beagle dogs each on Day 6 or 21 after first acceptance of the male. Based on corpora lutea counts, embryonic loss was 95.5 and 67.3%, respectively, for the two treatment groups, and only 34.5% for the control.

Nanoscale Analysis beyond Imaging by Atomic Force Microscopy: Molecular Perspectives on Oncology and Neurodegeneration

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 5, Issue 11, November 2025.
Cancer and neurodegeneration share interconnected nanosized molecular pathways. Novel nanobiomedicine approaches promise targeted biomarkers and therapies. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is invaluable to characterize nanosized biomolecular processes beyond imaging.

Oral contraceptives, norethindrone and mestranol: effects on tissue levels of minerals

open access: yes, 1976
The study involved three levels of dietary zinc (deficient, marginal, and adequate) and four hormonal conditions; namely, no steriods, norethindrone, mestranol, and norethindrone plus mestranol. The steroids were incorporated into diets and fed to 11-wk-

A Modern Approach to Minimally Invasive Surgery and Laparoscopic Sterilization in a Chimpanzee

open access: yesCase Reports in Veterinary Medicine, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
We present the case of Ruby, a 21‐year‐old hand‐reared chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who had an obstetric history significant for a premature stillborn infant that was conceived while on oral contraceptive pills, followed by a full term healthy delivery complicated by neonatal demise attributed to inappropriate maternal care.

Feminization of Longnose Dace (Rhinichthys cataractae) in the Oldman River, Alberta, (Canada) Provides Evidence of Widespread Endocrine Disruption in an Agricultural Basin

open access: yesScientifica, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
We sampled an abundant, native minnow (Longnose dace—Rhinichthys cataractae) throughout the Oldman River, Alberta, to determine physiological responses and possible population level consequences from exposure to compounds with hormone‐like activity.

A note on spectrophotometric methods for the determination of norethynodrel and mestranol in tablets

open access: yes, 1967
The method for assay of norethynodrel involves acid catalysed rearrangement of the Δ5,10 system to a Δ4,3-ketone with stronger ultraviolet absorption.

Colorimetric method for the estimation of norethynodrel in tablets containing mestranol

open access: yes, 1964
The colour method proposed for the estimation of norethynodrel in tablets with mestranol utilises a reaction similar to the well known Zimmerman reaction, the reagents employed being m-dinitrobenzene and benzyltrimethylammonium hydroxide solution and a ...

Effect of the Contraceptive Steroids Norethynodrel and Mestranol on Dental Caries Activity in Young Adult Female Rats

open access: yes, 1973
Norethynodrel and mestranol in a ratio identical to that used for contraception were injected subcutaneously daily for five weeks into young adult female rats. These rats were fed with a purified caries test diet. The carious lesions of the treated rats

Effects of chronic mestranol and (or) norethindrone treatment on ethanol-associated decreases in hepatic benzo[a]pyrene hydroxylase activity and increases in central vein fat accumulation in the female Wistar rat

open access: yes, 1983
Wistar rats were fed a liquid diet, Sustacal®, which contained ethanol (40% of calories) or isocaloric sucrose. Mestranol and norethindrone in pharmacological doses were also administered via this diet. Hepatic microsomal benzo[a]pyrene (BP) hydroxylase,
