Abstract High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with specific radioimmunoassays for methionine-enkephalin-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8 (Met-E-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8), methionine-enkephalin (Met-E), leucine-enkephalin (Leu-E) and methionine-enkephalin-Arg6-Phe7 (Met-E-Arg6-Phe7) has demonstrated that Met-E-Arg6-Gly7-Leu8 exists together with Met-E, Leu-E and

Naloxone-dependent effects of Met-enkephalin (10(-8) M) on the spontaneous and electrically induced mechanical activities were studied in longitudinal and circular preparations isolated from the cat duodenum, jejunum and ileum. Met-Enkephalin changed the spontaneous activity of all preparations tested with the exception of the circular preparations ...

Uptake/internalization of met-enkephalin by brain synaptosomes
Life Sciences, 1983In this manuscript, we provide evidence for the uptake of met-enkephalin by brain neurons. Tritiated met-enkephalin was accumulated by a crude synaptosomal fraction of rat brain, in the presence of peptidase inhibitors. Characterization of this process in striatum and mediobasal hypothalamus showed incubation time- and temperature-dependence and ...

Plasma met-enkephalin in type I diabetes
Metabolism, 1992Physiological and pathological evidence suggests that opioid peptides may play a role in glucose homeostasis. We measured plasma levels of beta-endorphin (beta-END) and met-enkephalin (met-ENK) in 22 type I diabetic patients and 15 healthy women (control group).

Met-enkephalin effects on associations formed in utero
Peptides, 1982Rat fetuses exposed to an odor stimulus and an aversive stimulus in utero showed an aversion to the odor when tested 16 days postnatally. Fetuses that also received 80 micrograms/kg Met-enkephalin showed a greater aversion to the odor stimulus than those subjects that did not receive the peptide.

A characterization of the in vivo immunomodulation by met-enkephalin in mice
International Journal of Immunopharmacology, 1993Single intraperitoneal injections of Met-enkephalin (MENK) into CBA mice decreased the phagocytic activity of peritoneal macrophages, Con-A-induced proliferation and NK-activity of spleen cells. Conversely, in mice which had been immunized with sheep erythrocytes, treatment with MENK was associated with enhancement of phagocytosis, and no effect on ...

Met-enkephalin stimulates secretion of ACTH in sheep
Journal of Endocrinology, 1986ABSTRACT The ability of opioid peptides to affect plasma immunoreactive ACTH concentrations was examined in conscious sheep. Plasma concentrations of ACTH were significantly increased by an i.v. infusion of Met-enkephalin and its analogue (FK-33824).

INHIBITION OF THE ENZYMATIC DEGRADATION OF MET-ENKEPHALIN BY CATECHOLAMINES
Endocrinology, 1982The influence of the catecholamine hormones and some of their metabolites on the enzymatic degradation of met-enkephalin by rat brain homogenates has been evaluated. The enzyme activity was determined by the release of [125I]-tyrosine from radioiodinated met-enkephalin following Porapak Q column chromatography.

In vivo release of met-enkephalin in the cat brain
Neuroscience, 1981Abstract Push-pull cannulae were implanted into the globus pallidus (anterior part), the caudate nucleus (medio-dorsal part) and the substantia nigra of halothane-anaesthesized cats to study the characteristics of the in vivo release of met-enkephalin. Met-enkephalin was measured by radioimmunoassay (sensitivity: 0.1 pg) and identified by Bio-Gel P

Met-enkephalin-like immunoreactivity in Merkel cells
Cell and Tissue Research, 1979The Merkel cells from sinus hair follicles of rats were investigated by immunohistochemistry using different antisera against neuropeptides and gastroenteropancreatic (GEP)-hormones. For the first time it has been demonstrated that Merkel cells exhibit an immunoreactivity towards metenkephalin (methionine-enkephalin).
