UHPLC-QTOFMS-Based Metabolomic Analysis of the Hippocampus in Hypoxia Preconditioned Mouse

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Background: Hypoxia appears in a number of extreme environments, including high altitudes, the deep sea, and during aviation, and occurs in cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory failures and neurological disorders. Though it is well recognized that

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Berberine induces apoptosis by suppressing the arachidonic acid metabolic pathway in hepatocellular carcinoma.

open access: yesMolecular Medicine Reports, 2015
Berberine (BBR) has been suggested as a potential candidate anticancer agent due to its high anticancer activity and multiple mechanisms. In the present study, the inhibitory effect of BBR on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) via the suppression of the ...

Metabolic pathway of oligosaccharides in sorghum honeydew caused by Claviceps africana Rota metabólica de oligossacarídeos em exsudato da "doença açucarada" do sorgo causado por Claviceps africana

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2008
The occurrence of the alditol oligosaccharides in the Claviceps afriana honeydew is partly as a rational expression of the pathogen's selective nutritive metabolism of the sucrose supplied by the host plant. The experiments were carried out in laboratory

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

The MetaCyc database of metabolic pathways and enzymes and the BioCyc collection of pathway/genome databases

open access: yesNucleic Acids Res., 2009
The MetaCyc database (MetaCyc.org) is a comprehensive and freely accessible resource for metabolic pathways and enzymes from all domains of life. The pathways in MetaCyc are experimentally determined, small-molecule metabolic pathways and are curated ...

Metabolic and Evolutionary Insights in the Transformation of Diphenylamine by a Pseudomonas putida Strain Unravelled by Genomic, Proteomic, and Transcription Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Diphenylamine (DPA) is a common soil and water contaminant. A Pseudomonas putida strain, recently isolated from a wastewater disposal site, was efficient in degrading DPA.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Construction of biogas metabolic pathway in a low‐temperature biogas fermentation system

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering, 2019
The main objective of this study was to establish the metabolic pathway of a biogas fermentation system active at low temperature, and to describe the bacterial and archaeal methanogenic species responsible.
