On the proposed role of metacognition in environment learning: recommendations for research
Metacognition plays a role in environment learning (EL). When navigating, we monitor environment information to judge our likelihood to remember our way, and we engage in control by using tools to prevent getting lost.

Abstract Background Colony stimulating factor‐1 receptor (CSF1R)‐related disorder (CSF1R‐RD) is an autosomal dominant, rapidly progressive, demyelinating disease leading to death usually within a few years. Because of the central role of CSF1R in microglia functions, allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been suggested as a ...

ABSTRACT In the era of the Framework for K‐12 Science Education and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), research on preparing preservice science teachers (PSTs) for NGSS‐aligned teaching practices is important. In this study, we explored PSTs' sense‐making around planning for Ambitious Science Teaching (AST) during their discussions of teaching ...

ABSTRACT This longitudinal phenomenological case study examines a science outreach program called iBEARS from undergraduate mentors' perceptions of their expectation for success, value in the experience, and knowledge gained. Undergraduates (n = 24) mentored K‐12 classrooms through biology research projects, participated in pre‐ and post‐questionnaires,

Elementary Students' Metacognitive Knowledge of Epistemic Criteria
ABSTRACT Scientific modeling is a core practice of scientific inquiry. Students' engagement in modeling can be enhanced by attending to epistemic criteria, which in science are standards used to evaluate the validity and accuracy of scientific models. While prior research has focused on students' development and use of epistemic criteria in scientific ...

Abstract This classroom‐based exploratory study examined the relationships between affective, social, and cognitive aspects of second language (L2) learners' task‐based performance. In responding to practical challenges when TBLT is implemented in the real‐world context, we collected observational data from multiple sources.

The cognition/metacognition tradeoff
Integration-to-boundary is an optimal decision algorithm that takes samples of evidence until the posterior reaches a decision boundary, resulting in the fastest decisions for a target accuracy. For example, integration-to-boundary achieves faster mean-RT compared with taking a fixed number of samples that result in the same choice-accuracy.
