Schooling Trajectories and the Development of Brain Dynamics: A Comparative Study of Montessori and Traditional Education

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We investigate whether Montessori and traditional schooling systems shape the developmental trajectory of large‐scale brain dynamics in different ways. We quantify the arrow of time (“non‐reversibility”) in neural activity during resting state and movie‐watching, revealing distinct maturational patterns.

Development of interactive MRI‐based 3D visualization tools for neuroanatomy education in Latin America

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The study of neuroanatomy is fundamental in many scientific fields. Despite this, it is a challenging subject for students. As technology evolves, it is being increasingly incorporated into educational methods, including the teaching of neuroanatomy. Three‐dimensional (3D) visualizations are well suited for displaying neuroanatomy.

Metacognitive Processes in Executive Control Development: The Case of Reactive and Proactive Control [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2015
Abstract Young children engage cognitive control reactively in response to events, rather than proactively preparing for events. Such limitations in executive control have been explained in terms of fundamental constraints on children's cognitive capacities.

Comparing the outcomes of the technology‐enhanced learning of sectional anatomy with and without preceding demonstrations: A study about the worked‐example effect in anatomy education

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The examination of anatomical cross‐sections can facilitate the understanding of spatial and clinical anatomy. Visualization technologies, with dynamic and interactive displays, can be used to learn sectional anatomy in a mostly self‐directed manner.

Exploring 3D anatomy: A free online course supporting novice learner inquiry and spatial conceptualization

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Application of three‐dimensional anatomical knowledge is essential for patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment and is crucial in the training of medical and healthcare students. Moreover, critical observation and spatial awareness are vital for learner understanding of three‐dimensional anatomical structures and relationships.

Metacognitive Control of Categorial Neurobehavioral Decision Systems [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
The competing neuro-behavioral decision systems (CNDS) model proposes that the degree to which an individual discounts the future is a function of the relative hyperactivity of an impulsive system based on the limbic and paralimbic brain regions and the relative hypoactivity of an executive system based in prefrontal cortex (PFC). The model depicts the

Informational and Normative Influence on Conformity in Autism

open access: yesAutism Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This preregistered study examined whether adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) show reduced social conformity and whether any such reduction depends on the type of social influence. Social conformity—the tendency to adjust one's judgments to align with those of others—is typically driven by normative (acceptance‐seeking) and ...
