The effectiveness of teaching metacognitive reading strategies

In this study, the effect of teaching metacognitive reading strategies on the students' metacognitive reading strategies and academic achievement on reading was investigated. Pre-test and post-test experimental design was used in the study. Teaching activities on metacognitive reading strategies were used in the experimental group for 7 weeks.

One of the greatest problems of research into the process of reading lies in the obvious fact that the process is invisible. This could explain why much of existing research has focused on reading comprehension, rather than on the reading process itself, thus contributing to the growing confusion between teaching reading and testing raeding competence.
