Carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa - clonal spread in Southern Brazil and in the State of Goiás

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2010
This study evaluated the clonal spread of carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa producing SPM-1 type metallo-β-lactamase (MBL), at the university hospital of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, compared to an epidemic clone previously reported, as well ...

Pharmacokinetics of Aztreonam–Avibactam After Single‐ and Multiple‐Dose Administration: A Phase 1, Open‐Label Study in Healthy Chinese Participants and Ethnic Comparison with Non‐Chinese Participants

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology in Drug Development, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Combined treatment with aztreonam (an established intravenous antibiotic) and avibactam (a β‐lactamase inhibitor) has the potential to address the unmet need for safe and effective agents to combat infections caused by Gram‐negative bacteria producing metallo β‐lactamases (MBLs).

Resistance of Gram-Negative Bacteria to Cefepime-Enmetazobactam: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPathogens
Cefepime-enmetazobactam is a novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combination showing good activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria producing a variety of β-lactamases.

Validation of Hexaplex Recombinase Polymerase Amplification Assay for the Detection of Carbapenemase Genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates From Pediatric Inpatients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 40, Issue 4, February 2026.
A novel hexaplex recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) method was developed to rapidly and accurately detect five key carbapenemase genes and a Klebsiella pneumoniae‐specific target in a single reaction. This makes it an effective tool for CRKP detection in resource‐constrained environments.

Screening of Heavy Metals Tolerance among Beta-Lactamase Producing Bacteria from Contaminated Soil and Waste Water of Some Abattoirs in Adamawa State

open access: yesUMYU Journal of Microbiology Research
Bacterial adaptability enables them to tolerate various stresses, including those from antibiotics and heavy metals.  This study aims to investigate the tolerance to heavy metals, as well as the production of beta-lactamase and metallo-beta-lactamase ...

Approachable Synthetic Methodologies for Second-Generation β-Lactamase Inhibitors: A Review

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
Some antibiotics that are frequently employed are β-lactams. In light of the hydrolytic process of β-lactamase, found in Gram-negative bacteria, inhibitors of β-lactamase (BLIs) have been produced.

Structure of apo- and monometalated forms of NDM-1--a highly potent carbapenem-hydrolyzing metallo-β-lactamase.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
The New Delhi Metallo-β-lactamase (NDM-1) gene makes multiple pathogenic microorganisms resistant to all known β-lactam antibiotics. The rapid emergence of NDM-1 has been linked to mobile plasmids that move between different strains resulting in world ...

Evolution of Metallo-β-lactamases: Trends Revealed by Natural Diversity and in vitro Evolution

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2014
The production of β-lactamase enzymes is one of the most distributed resistance mechanisms towards β-lactam antibiotics. Metallo-β-lactamases constitute a worrisome group of these kinds of enzymes, since they present a broad spectrum profile, being able

Activities of aztreonam in combination with several novel β-lactam-β-lactamase inhibitor combinations against carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strains coproducing KPC and NDM

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Isolates coproducing serine/metallo-carbapenems are a serious emerging public health threat, given their rapid dissemination and the limited number of treatment options.
