A 2018–2019 Patent Review of Metallo Beta-Lactamase Inhibitors
Expert Opinion on Therapeutic Patents, 2020Antibiotic resistance caused by beta-lactamase expressing bacteria poses a concern given its global dissemination and proliferation. The emergence of the metallo beta-lactamases is an indefinite health threat toward which current antibiotics have limited clinical efficacy.

Treatment Options for New Delhi Metallo-Beta-Lactamase-Harboring Enterobacteriaceae
Microbial Drug Resistance, 2013The New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase gene ( bla NDM-1 ) has emerged as a worldwide concern among isolates of Enterobacteriaceae. Its epidemiology is been strongly associated with travel and healthcare on the Indian Subcontinent.

Metallo-beta-lactamase inhibitors: promise for the future?
Current opinion in investigational drugs (London, England : 2000), 2005Carbapenem resistance continues to erode the effectiveness of antibiotics such as imipenem and meropenem in the clinic. Resistance mechanisms can include interplay between porin loss (membrane permeability), mutation of penicillin binding proteins necessary for cell division, and expression of class A, B and D beta-lactamases.

Metallo beta lactamases inPseudomonas aeruginosaand Acinetobacter species
Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs, 2008The multi drug resistant gram negative bacteria especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter species are on the rise. The major defense in these bacteria against beta-lactam antibiotics is production of metallo beta lactamases (MBLs) which degrade this group of antibiotics including carbapenems.

Metallo-beta-lactamases: mechanisms, treatment challenges, and future prospects
Expert Review of Anti-infective TherapyMetallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs) are responsible for resistance to almost all beta-lactam antibiotics. Found predominantly in Gram-negative bacteria, they severely limit treatment options. Understanding the epidemiology, risk factors, treatment, and prevention of infections caused by MBL-producing organisms is essential to reduce their burden. The origins

[Metallo-beta-lactamase producing bacteria].
Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2001Metallo-beta-lactamases are the carbapenemases belonging to the class B beta-lactamases on a molecular level. Two types of the metallo-beta-lactamase, IMP-1 and VIM-1, which have been detected mainly from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively, in Japan and in Europe are especially important, because of the broad substrate specificity.

Metallo-beta-lactamases: a class apart.
Clinical infectious diseases : an official publication of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, 1998Metallo-beta-lactamases have recently become more prominent among the beta-lactam-hydrolyzing enzymes. Two major functional groups of enzymes have been identified, with little structural similarity among the groups. One group is a set of enzymes with broad substrate specificities capable of hydrolyzing most beta-lactams except monobactams.
