A novel secretory poly-cysteine and histidine-tailed metalloprotein (Ts-PCHTP) from Trichinella spiralis (Nematoda). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: Trichinella spiralis is an unusual parasitic intracellular nematode causing dedifferentiation of the host myofiber. Trichinella proteomic analyses have identified proteins that act at the interface between the parasite and the host and are ...

Engineering Electron Transfer Flux between Cytochrome P450 Enzyme and P450 Reductase to Enhance Serotonin Production in Escherichia Coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The electron transfer flux in CPR‐P450 catalytic system is systematically engineered through: i) enhancing electron transfer rate by redesigning the putative electron transfer pathway of CPR; ii) improving electron‐receiving rate by evolving the heme domain of tryptophan‐5‐hydroxylase (T5H); iii) enlarging electron supply by fine‐tuning NADPH synthesis.

Metalloprotein‐based MRI probes [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2013
Metalloproteins have long been recognized as key determinants of endogenous contrast in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of biological subjects. More recently, both natural and engineered metalloproteins have been harnessed as biotechnological tools to probe gene expression, enzyme activity, and analyte concentrations by MRI.

Chirality Regulates Stem Cell Fate and Promotes Corneal Epithelial Regeneration via Manipulating Notch Pathway

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chirality governs the limbal epithelial stem cell fate. Right‐handed chirality enhances cell proliferation and differentiation, while left‐handed chirality partially maintains cell stemness. By activating the Notch pathway, 3D right‐handed chiral hydrogel offers a drug‐free and cell‐free strategy for effective corneal regeneration.

N-Cadherin cleavage during activated hepatic stellate cell apoptosis is inhibited by tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1. [In supplement: 11th International Symposium on the Cells of the Hepatic Sinusoid and their Relation to Other Cells] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Apoptosis of hepatic stellate cells (HSC) has previously been shown to occur during spontaneous resolution of experimental liver fibrosis. TIMP-1 has also been shown to have a key role because of its ability to inhibit apoptosis of HSC via matrix ...

Metal‐Mediated Protein Engineering within Live Cells

open access: yesChemistry – An Asian Journal, Volume 20, Issue 6, March 17, 2025.
This review discusses how metal ions can mediate protein modification within live cells. With its easy handling, rapid solubility, and ease of internalization within the cells, metal ions can be an excellent stimulus for many organic reactions needed within an intracellular medium, which can modify proteins and lead to applications in chemistry ...

High-throughput PIXE as an essential quantitative assay for accurate metalloprotein structural analysis; development and application.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2019
Metalloproteins comprise over one third of proteins, with approximately half of all enzymes requiring metal to function. Accurate identification of these metal atoms and their environment is a prerequisite to understanding biological mechanism. Using ion

Ab initio analysis of the x-ray absorption spectrum of the myoglobin-carbon monoxide complex: Structure and vibrations

open access: yes, 2010
We present a comparison between Fe K-edge x-ray absorption spectra of carbonmonoxy-myoglobin and its simulation based on density-functional theory determination of the structure and vibrations and spectral simulation with multiple-scattering theory.

Exploiting SpyTag/SpyCatcher Technology to Design New Artificial Catalytic Copper Proteins

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
Designing artificial metal sites in proteins is challenging due to the need to place the metal site in precise positions and to tailor the coordination environment of the metal. A modular approach based on the SpyTag/SpyCatcher technology is used to provide the Spy construct with a Cu2+/ATCUN site.
