Leptomeningeal metastasis

2018
Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) results from dissemination of cancer cells to both the leptomeninges (pia and arachnoid) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compartment. Breast cancer, lung cancer, and melanoma are the most common solid tumors that cause LM.

Metastasis and Angiogenesis

Acta Oncologica, 1990
The relationship of angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels, to the process of tumour metastasis is examined. While the occurrence of angiogenesis generally is a necessary prerequisite for the formation of secondary tumours its presence is not a guarantee that cancer dissemination will occur.

Metastasis in meningioma

Acta Neurochirurgica, 1996
Meningioma is a neoplastic growth originating from the leptomeninges. Although meningiomas are usually benign, malignant meningiomas with distant metastases occur infrequently. There is little precise information in the literature regarding the frequency of metastases in meningiomas; their incidence has been vaguely reported to be less than 1 per 1,000.

Metastasis mechanisms

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Reviews on Cancer, 2009
Metastasis, the spread of malignant cells from a primary tumor to distant sites, poses the biggest problem to cancer treatment and is the main cause of death of cancer patients. It occurs in a series of discrete steps, which have been modeled into a "metastatic cascade".

Cutaneous Metastasis

Hematology/Oncology Clinics of North America, 2019
Although rare, cutaneous metastases portend a poor prognosis and are often an indicator of widespread disease. Breast cancer and melanoma are the most common types of cancer that are associated with spread to and within the skin; however, other malignancies, such as lung, colon, head and neck, and hematologic, have been described with a degree of ...
