Structure-based experimental confirmation of biochemical function to a methyltransferase, MJ0882, from hyperthermophile Methanococcus jannaschii

open access: yes, 2002
We have determined the three-dimensional (3-D) structure of protein MJ0882, which derives from a hypothetical open reading frame in the genome of the hyperthermophile Methanococcus jannaschii.

Quantitative proteomics of nutrient limitation in the hydrogenotrophic methanogen Methanococcus maripaludis

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2009
Background Methanogenic Archaea play key metabolic roles in anaerobic ecosystems, where they use H2 and other substrates to produce methane. Methanococcus maripaludis is a model for studies of the global response to nutrient limitations.

Regulation of formate dehydrogenase activity in Methanococcus thermolithotrophicus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1990
Methanococcus thermolithotrophicus can use either H2 or formate as the electron donor for methanogenesis from CO2. Resuspended-cell experiments revealed that the ability to use H2 as the source of electrons for methanogenesis was constitutive; cells grown on formate or H2-CO2 were equally capable of H2-CO2 methanogenesis.

Minimizing the Anticodon-Recognized Loop of Methanococcus jannaschii Tyrosyl-tRNA Synthetase to Improve the Efficiency of Incorporating Noncanonical Amino Acids

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2023
In the field of genetic code expansion (GCE), improvements in the efficiency of noncanonical amino acid (ncAA) incorporation have received continuous attention.

Selenocysteine, pyrrolysine and the unique energy metabolism of methanogenic archaea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Methanogenic archaea are a group of strictly anaerobic microorganisms characterized by their strict dependence on the process of methanogenesis for energy conservation.

Neomycin resistance as a selectable marker in Methanococcus maripaludis [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1996
We cloned the aminoglycoside phosphotransferase genes APH3'I and APH3'II between the Methanococcus voltae methyl reductase promoter and terminator in a plasmid containing a fragment of Methanococcus maripaludis chromosomal DNA. The resulting plasmids encoding neomycin resistance transformed M.

Identification of an additional minor pilin essential for piliation in the archaeon Methanococcus maripaludis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Methanococcus maripaludis is an archaeon with two studied surface appendages, archaella and type IV-like pili. Previously, the major structural pilin was identified as MMP1685 and three additional proteins were designated as minor pilins (EpdA, EpdB and ...

Plant NAOGAT (ArgJ) Structure Reveals Mechanism of Ornithine Biosynthesis, Preference for Acetylornithine and Susceptibility to Mangotoxin

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Arginine metabolism in plants is targeted by phytopathogens such as Pseudomonas syringae strains, which produce toxins that affect enzymes of plant arginine metabolism, causing devastating infections in crops. In this work, the structural and functional properties of plant N‐acetylornithine glutamate acetyltransferase (NAOGAT), the key ...

Genetic transformation in the methanogen Methanococcus voltae PS [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1987
Mutations causing requirements for histidine, purine, and vitamin B12 were obtained in strain PS of Methanococcus voltae (archaebacteria) upon irradiation with UV or gamma rays. The first two mutations were shown to revert at low frequencies and were used to demonstrate the occurrence of transformation with homologous, wild-type DNA. The transformation
