Maize (Zea mays) is the most important coarse cereal utilized as a major energy source for animal feed and humans. However, maize grains are deficient in methionine, an essential amino acid required for proper growth and development. Synthetic methionine

A New Colorimetric Assay for Methionyl Aminopeptidases: Examination of the Binding of a New Class of Pseudopeptide Analog Inhibitors [PDF]
A direct and convenient spectrophotometric assay has been developed for methionine aminopeptidases (MetAPs). The method employs the hydrolysis of a substrate that is a methionyl analogue of p-nitroaniline (l-Met-p-NA), which releases the chromogenic ...

Reduction of methionine sulfoxide to methionine by Escherichia coli [PDF]
L-Methionine-dl-sulfoxide can support the growth of an Escherichia coli methionine auxotroph, suggesting the presence of an enzyme(s) capable of reducing the sulfoxide to methionine. This was verified by showing that a cell-free extract of E. coli catalyzes the conversion of methionine sulfoxide to methionine.

Effect of Methionine Restriction on IGF-1 Gene Expression in Breast Muscle of Japanese Quail [PDF]
In the present study to investigate the effect of dietary methionine restriction on IGF-1 gene expression in breast muscle of Japanese quail, 200 pieces of the birds were randomly divided into two different dietary groups containing recommended ...

Methionine sulfoxide reductase A is a stereospecific methionine oxidase [PDF]
Methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MsrA) catalyzes the reduction of methionine sulfoxide to methionine and is specific for the S epimer of methionine sulfoxide. The enzyme participates in defense against oxidative stresses by reducing methionine sulfoxide residues in proteins back to methionine.

Fatty liver produced by dietary deficiencies: its pathogenesis and potentiation by ethanol
In a study of the pathogenesis of hepatic fat accumulation under experimental conditions mimicking chronic alcoholism, rats were fed a low-fat diet, deficient in amino acids and choline, containing either ethanol or isocaloric amounts of carbohydrate ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
