Dopamine and methionine-enkephalin in human brain
Neuroscience Letters, 1982Abstract The contents of dopamine (determined radioenzymatically) and methionine-enkephalin (assayed by a radioimmunoassay) were measured in several areas of the human brain. The peptide was principally localized in dopamine-rich structures. In patients with Parkinson's disease, in contrast to the general dopamine deficiency, the reduction in ...

We previously reported that ultraviolet (UV) A eye irradiation reduces the ulcerative colitis induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS). This study examined the effects of UVA on colon carcinoma induced by azoxymethane (AOM) and DSS.

ENZYME IMMUNOASSAY FOR METHIONINE‐ENKEPHALIN SULFOXIDE
Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology, 1990SUMMARY1. An immunoassay technique employing an enzyme‐labelled ligand was developed for the sulfoxide derivative of the opioid peptide methionine‐enkephalin (MOE).2. The sensitivity of the enzyme immunoassay (EIA) was approximately twofold higher than that achieved in the radio‐immunoassay (RIA) using tritiated ligand.

Recent experimental results about the oxidation of methionine enkephalin by ·OH radicals indicated an intramolecular electron transfer between the C-terminal methionine radical cation and the tyrosine N-terminus too fast to be observed.

Methionine Enkephalin: Clinical Pharmacology [PDF]
Earlier studies indicated that methionine enkephalin infusions (1,000 micrograms) in normal volunteers induced facial flushing, general vasodilation and noisy stomach (borborgymi). Blood pressure and pulse rate were normal in all experiments. Plasma levels of pancreatic polypeptide, somatostatin, T3 and T4, TSH, FSH, PRL, ACTH, and GH were unchanged ...

Cross tolerance between morphine and methionine-enkephalin [PDF]
TOLERANCE and dependence are characteristic symptoms in man during prolonged use of opiates. We have pointed out1 that for an understanding of these phenomena the interaction between endogenous enkephalin and exogenous opiates is of importance. Normally, enkephalin can be assumed to control inhibitory mechanisms determining the rate of neurotransmitter

Synaptic mechanism of methionine-enkephalin uptake
Life Sciences, 1982The actions of classical neurotransmitters at the synapse are rapidly terminated either by re-uptake or by enzymatic degradation. Enkephalins, like other neurotransmitters, have been demonstrated to be degraded by active proteinases present in the brain. However, it has been generally assumed that an uptake process is not operant for met-enkephalin. To

Abstract: Background: Opiate peptides are involved in the physical dependence on ethanol. Levels of methionine enkephalin (MEnk), for example, are affected by ethanol. No study on the effect of ethanol on endomorphin, the endogenous ligand for the μ‐opiate receptor, has yet been conducted. Methods: We examined the effect of ethanol ingestion on serum
