Methionine Enkephalin: A New Cytokine—Human Studies

Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology, 1997
The effects of methionine enkephalin (met-enkephalin) on human immune function are reviewed. This pentapeptide functions to upregulate, or enhance, immune function in the majority of donor samples at low doses and suppresses at high doses. The influence of this molecule is shared by the central nervous, neuroendocrine, and immune systems.

Inhibition of B16-BL6 melanoma growth in mice by methionine-enkephalin.

Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1985
The antitumor effect of methionine-enkephalin [( Met]enkephalin) was demonstrated in C57BL/6J mice inoculated with B16-BL6 melanoma cells. Local subcutaneous tumor growth was inhibited with a 50-micrograms dose daily for 7 or 14 days.

Immunocytochemical localization of methionine enkephalin: Preliminary observations

Life Sciences, 1977
Abstract Antiserum directed against methionine enkephalin (metenkephalin) was used to determine its anatomical distribution in rat brain. Cross reactivity of that antiserum was not detectable against leucine enkephalin (leu-enkephalin), β-lipotropin (β-LPH), β-endorphin or assorted peptide fragments of met-enkephalin; alpha-endorphin was 370 times ...

Development of a specific extracted radioimmunoassay for methionine enkephalin in human plasma and cerebrospinal fluid.

Journal of Endocrinology, 1980
A sensitive extracted radioimmunoassay for methionine enkephalin (met-enkephalin) has been developed which allows measurement of its concentration in human plasma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Methionine-enkephalin and morphine: Amount ejected microiontophoretically

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1981
The microiontophoretic transport numbers of Met-enkephalin and morphine were determined by ejecting the tritiated compounds from both 5-barrel and 7-barrel micro-pipettes into a small volume of 0.9% NaCl, using a series of ejection currents and various timed durations.

Methionine Enkephalin: Immunomodulator in Normal Volunteers (in Vivo)

1986
The enkephalin, methionine enkephalin (met-enkephalin) was originally discovered to be one of the endogenous ligands for morphine receptors (Hughes et al., 1975; Simontov and Snyder, 1976). However, Plotnikoff et al., (1976) discovered anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, and anti-convulsant effects of the enkephalins, identifying a much broader spectrum of ...

Conformational analysis of Methionine-Enkephalin and some analogs

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1977
Abstract Conformational energy calculations on Methionine-Enkephalin and on several of its analogues indicate that the calculated lowest energy conformation of the native enkephalin may not be the conformer which interacts at the opioid active site.
