Methionine sulfoxide reductase in antioxidant defense

1999
Publisher Summary Cells contain methionine sulfoxide reductases (MsrA) that catalyze the thioredoxin-dependent reduction of methionine sulfoxide [Met(O)] back to methionine (Met). The oxidation of methionine residues of some proteins may lead either to activation or to inactivation of their biological activities, whereas the oxidation of one or more ...

SalmonellaTyphimurium methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MsrA) prefers TrxA in repairing methionine sulfoxide

Preparative Biochemistry & Biotechnology, 2016
Intraphagocytic survival of Salmonella Typhimurium (ST) depends (at least in part) upon its ability to repair oxidant-damaged macromolecules. Met residues either free or in protein bound form are highly susceptible to phagocyte-generated oxidants. Oxidation of Mets leads to Met-SO formation, consequently loss of protein functions that results in cell ...

Methionine sulfoxide reduction in ciliates: Characterization of the ready-to-use methionine sulfoxide-R-reductase genes in Euplotes

Gene, 2013
Genes encoding the enzyme methionine sulfoxide reductase type B, specific to the reduction of the oxidized methionine-R form, were characterized from the expressed (macronuclear) genome of two ecologically separate marine species of Euplotes, i.e. temperate water E. raikovi and polar water E. nobilii.
