The Role and Regulatory Mechanism of Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase (Msr) in the Process of Chilling Injury of Fruits and Vegetables: A Review

open access: yesHorticulturae
The failure to promptly eliminate excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) leads to the oxidation of biological macromolecules such as proteins, which is a key factor in chilling injury (CI) in harvested fruits and vegetables.

Drought and salinity stress remodel Asian rice (Oryza sativa) leaf development through cell‐type‐specific regulatory programs

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 4, Page 1376-1395, November 2026.
Osmotic stressors induce developmental and physiological changes in rice (Oryza sativa) seedlings, which are modulated by cell‐type‐specific gene expression and regulatory networks. We exposed plants to two levels of drought and salinity stress and measured the effects of these stressors on developing leaves by measuring physiological traits, ion ...

Spx mediates oxidative stress regulation of the methionine sulfoxide reductases operon in Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesBMC Microbiology, 2008
Background All aerobically grown living cells are exposed to oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS). A major damage by ROS to proteins is caused by covalent modifications of methionine residues giving methionine sulfoxide (Met-SO).

One Hundred Years of Sulfido Ligand in the Molybdenum Cofactor: New Perspectives

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 19, 14 October 2026.
The terminal sulfido ligand in mononuclear molybdoenzymes has been appreciated for almost 125 years, with the characterization of Schardinger's enzyme in cow's milk, now known to be xanthine oxidase, that was isolated in 1902 in Vienna, Austria. The ligand is found in molybdoenzymes identified across all kingdoms of life.

Sacrificial Methionine Residues Protect Active‐Site Histidines From Oxidation

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie Novit, Volume 2, Issue 3, September 2026.
Methionine residues near the active site of human ribonuclease 1 act as sacrificial antioxidants, protecting catalytic histidines from oxidation by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Chemoselective capping with an oxaziridine and total chemical synthesis with a sulfur‐free norleucine isostere each render the enzyme more susceptible to oxidative ...

Design, Synthesis, Antimycobacterial Evaluation, and In Silico Investigation of Benzisothiazole‐Based Hydrazide Derivatives as Potential Anti‐Tuberculosis Agents

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 108, Issue 3, September 2026.
A novel series of benzisothiazole‐based hydrazide derivatives was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for antitubercular activity. Compound 8k emerged as the most potent candidate (MIC = 0.25 μg/mL) with a high selectivity index (SI = 42) and bactericidal activity. Molecular docking and 100 ns simulations identified InhA as the probable target.

A novel, molybdenum-containing methionine sulfoxide reductase supports survival of Haemophilus influenzae in an in vivo model of infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
H. influenzae is a host adapted human mucosal pathogen involved in a variety of acute and chronic respiratory tract infections, including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma, all of which rely on ability to efficiently establish ...

One cysteine is enough: A monothiol Grx can functionally replace all cytosolic Trx and dithiol Grx

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2020
Glutaredoxins are small proteins of the thioredoxin superfamily that are present throughout life. Most glutaredoxins fall into two major subfamilies.

Cross‐Species Plasticity and Divergence Under Alkaline Soil Signature Conditions Differentiating PYE From FIT Target Transcripts in the Arabidopsis thaliana Ferrome

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 9, Page 6719-6736, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Soil pH is an influential abiotic environmental factor. Here, we identify responses to central stimuli associated with calcareous alkaline soils in Arabidopsis and comparatively explore the potential of the closely related Arabidopsis halleri for addressing how plants cope with local soil pH.

The DmsABC S-oxide reductase is an essential component of a novel, hypochlorite-inducible system of extracellular stress defense in Haemophilus influenzae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Defenses against oxidative damage to cell components are essential for survival of bacterial pathogens during infection, and here we have uncovered that the DmsABC S-/N-oxide reductase is essential for virulence and in-host survival of the human-adapted ...
