Extrapolation vs. projection methods for linear systems of equations

open access: yes, 1988
It is shown that the four vector extrapolation methods, minimal polynomial extrapolation, reduced rank extrapolation, modified minimal polynomial extrapolation, and topological epsilon algorithm, when applied to linearly generated vector sequences, are ...

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Rapid deployment valve system shortens operative times for aortic valve replacement through right anterior minithoracotomy

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2017
Background There is growing evidence from the literature that right anterior minithoracotomy aortic valve replacement (RAT-AVR) improves clinical outcome.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Development of detection method for the generating state of maximun friction force on CVT belt

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
Vehicles with a metal belt-type continuously variable transmission(CVT) that can run under optimal engine fuel consumption conditions have been popular. However, the CVT unit itself can improve in terms of the efficiency. This is possible as the clamping

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

The biogeochemistry of carbon across a gradient of streams and rivers within the Congo Basin

open access: yes, 2014
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and inorganic carbon (DIC and pCO2), lignin biomarkers and the optical properties of dissolved organic matter (DOM) were measured in a gradient of streams and rivers within the Congo Basin (Republic of Congo), with the aim ...

NII Technical Report (NII-2016-001E):Modulus-Type Inner Outer Iteration Methods for Nonnegative Constrained Least Squares Problems (Revised Version) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
For the solution of large sparse nonnegative constrained least squares (NNLS) problems, a new iterative method is proposed which uses the CGLS method for the inner iterations and the modulus iterative method for the outer iterations to solve the linear ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.
