Ageing And Cancer As Diseases Of Epigenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Cancer and ageing are often said to be diseases of development. During the past fifty years, the genetic components of cancer and ageing have been intensely investigated since development, itself, was seen to be an epiphenomenon of the genome.

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Correlation between MGMT methylation and the efficacy of bevacizumab in high-grade glioma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
PurposeThe aim of this study is to investigate whether the therapeutic efficacy of bevacizumab (BEV) in the treatment of high-grade glioma (HGG) is associated with the methylation status of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) on the basis of ...

Differentially methylated CpG sites associated with the high-risk group of prostate cancer

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Bioinformatics, 2020
Prostate cancer (PC) is one of the most common and socially significant oncological diseases among men. Bioinformatic analysis of omics data allows identifying molecular genetic changes associated with the disease development, as well as markers of ...

The Studies of Prognostic Factors and the Genetic Polymorphism of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase C667T in Thymic Epithelial Tumors

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
ObjectiveTo describe the clinical features of a cohort of patients with thymic epithelial tumors (TETs) and to analyze their prognostic factors. In particular, we investigated the correlation between the genetic polymorphism of methylenetetrahydrofolate ...

Multi‐omic characterization of consensus molecular subtype 1 (CMS1) colorectal cancer with dampened immune response improves precision medicine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study highlights the importance of multi‐omic analyses in characterizing colorectal cancers. Indeed, our analysis revealed a rare CMS1 exhibiting dampened immune activation, including reduced PD‐1 expression, moderate CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, and suppressed JAK/STAT pathway.

CpG Island Methylation of Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling-1 Gene Induced by HCV Is Associated With HCV-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS-1) is implicated in both virus infection and carcinogenesis. This study investigated the role of HCV infection on SOCS-1 in normal and HCV-infected tissues and revealed a possible mechanism underlying HCV-induced ...
