Conformational changes on substrate binding to methylmalonyl CoA mutase and new insights into the free radical mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Background: Methylmalonyl CoA mutase catalyses the interconversion of succinyl CoA and methylmalonyl CoA via a free radical mechanism. The enzyme belongs to a family of enzymes that catalyse intramolecular rearrangement reactions in which a group and a ...

Structure of the human methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MUT) locus

open access: yesGenomics, 1990
The MUT locus encoding the enzyme methylmalonyl-CoA mutase is defective in mut forms of methylmalonic acidemia. This locus has been mapped to chromosome 6p12-21.1. We report cloning and characterization of this locus which comprises 13 exons spanning greater than 35 kb of the genome.

Transcriptomic and proteomic changes associated with cobalamin-dependent propionate production by the rumen bacterium Xylanibacter ruminicola

open access: yesmSystems
Xylanibacter ruminicola is an abundant rumen bacterium that produces propionate in a cobalamin (vitamin B12)-dependent manner via the succinate pathway.

Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis in an Iranian family with a novel mutation in MUT gene

open access: yesBMC Medical Genetics, 2020
Background Methylmalonic acidemia (MMA), which is an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder, is caused by mutations in methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MUT) gene.

Novel AAV-mediated genome editing therapy improves health and survival in a mouse model of methylmalonic acidemia.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) is an inborn error of metabolism mostly caused by mutations in the mitochondrial methylmalonyl-CoA mutase gene (MMUT). MMA patients suffer from frequent episodes of metabolic decompensation, which can be life threatening.

Isolation and Expression of a cDNA Encoding Methylmalonic Aciduria Type A Protein from Euglena gracilis Z

open access: yesMetabolites, 2013
In animals, cobalamin (Cbl) is a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MCM), which utilizes methylcobalamin and 5′-deoxyadenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl), respectively.

Common pathways and outliers in glucose catabolism across Trypanosomatidae

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Trypanosomatid parasites, including Trypanosoma sp., Leishmania sp., Phytomonas sp., and Vickermania sp., share a common motif: a metabolism built around the glycosome, a unique peroxisome‐derived organelle housing the first steps of glycolysis. Yet, these organisms have evolved remarkably diverse strategies to catabolize glucose, excreting distinct ...

Overlooked components of lipid metabolism: Odd‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in photosynthetic microorganisms

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract This mini‐review examines odd‐carbon polyunsaturated fatty acids (odd‐PUFAs), a rare but biologically significant group of fatty acids in photosynthetic microorganisms. Odd‐PUFAs are straight‐chain fatty acids containing an odd number of carbon atoms and two or more methylene‐interrupted double bonds. They typically account for less than 1% of

Seasonal Effect of a Small Hydropower Plant on Benthic Biofilm Microbial Community Structure and Predicted Functional Potential

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Biofilm microbial composition varies significantly; diversity is higher in spring and autumn. The dewatered reach shows the broadest niche and dominant stochastic assembly. Seasonal assembly shift: deterministic in summer, stochastic in winter. Nutrient cycling genes vary more among sites than seasons under SHP influence.

Insertional inactivation of methylmalonyl coenzyme A (CoA) mutase and isobutyryl-CoA mutase genes in Streptomyces cinnamonensis: influence on polyketide antibiotic biosynthesis.

open access: yes, 1999
The coenzyme B(12)-dependent isobutyryl coenzyme A (CoA) mutase (ICM) and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MCM) catalyze the isomerization of n-butyryl-CoA to isobutyryl-CoA and of methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA, respectively. The influence that both mutases
