Pharmacokinetics of Methylprednisolone Hemisuccinate and Methylprednisolone in Chronic Liver Disease

Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1993
The disposition of methylprednisolone (MP) and its prodrug hemisuccinate (MPHS) was assessed in six middle‐aged patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) and compared with six younger, healthy subjects after a single IV dose of 25.4 mg of MPHS. Blood and urine samples were collected over 12 hours.

High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of hydrocortisone and methylprednisolone and their hemisuccinate salts

Journal of Chromatography A, 1979
Abstract A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) procedure for the determination of hydrocortisone hemisuccinate and methylprednisolone hemisuccinate and their corresponding free steroids in experimental, lyophilized products of the hemiesters is described. The method is suitable as a stability-indicating assay.

High-dose intravenous pulse methylprednisolone hemisuccinate in acute behçet retinitis

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1998
To report the response of acute Behçet retinitis to high-dose corticosteroids.Case report. A 58-year-old man with Behçet disease and severe bilateral glaucoma experienced a sudden decrease of visual acuity to counting fingers in his (better-seeing) left eye. Examination disclosed hypopyon uveitis and an infiltrative retinitis threatening the fovea.

In vitro trans-scleral iontophoresis of methylprednisolone hemisuccinate with short application time and high drug concentration

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2013
Trans-scleral iontophoresis, i.e. the application of small electric current to enhance drug transport across sclera is an option for non-invasive delivery of corticosteroids to the posterior segment of the eye. In this paper, in vitro trans-scleral iontophoresis of methylprednisolone hemisuccinate was investigated using concentrated drug solutions and ...

High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of hydrocortisone and methylprednisolone and their hemisuccinate esters in human serum

Biomedical Applications, 1979
A high-performance liquid chromatographic method is described for the simultaneous determination of methylprednisolone (MP) and methylprednisolone hemisuccinate (MPHS), or hydrocortisone (HC) and hydrocortisone hemisuccinate (HCHS) in human serum. Reversed-phase liquid chromatography was performed on a microparticulate C18 column (Spherisorb, 5 micron)

Surface-functionalization of mesoporous SBA-15 silica materials for controlled release of methylprednisolone sodium hemisuccinate: Influence of functionality type and strategies of incorporation

Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, 2017
Mesoporous SBA-15 silica materials functionalized with several organic moieties, that include different polarities and hydrophobicities, were investigated as matrices for controlled drug delivery. The functionalities were incorporated into SBA-15 using two methods: direct synthesis or co-condensation route and post-synthesis grafting ...

Kinetic study of USP blue tetrazolium assay with methylprednisolone, hydrocortisone, and their hemisuccinate esters by high-pressure liquid chromatography

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1980
The reactions of blue tetrazolium (I) with methylprednisolone and hydrocortisone and their hemisuccinate esters at ambient temperature under USP assay conditions in alcohol USP and in absolute alcohol were followed by high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and spectrophotometry.

Dexamethasone-induced methylprednisolone hemisuccinate hydrolase: Its identification as a member of the rat carboxylesterase 2 family and its unique existence in plasma

Biochemical Pharmacology, 2005
Carboxylesterases (CESs) play important roles in the metabolism of many ester-drugs. In the present study, we identified and characterized dexamethasone-induced methylprednisolone hemisuccinate (MPHS) hydrolase in rat liver microsomes. Intraperitoneal injection of dexamethasone resulted in a significant increase in the level of MPHS hydrolase activity ...
