Will European Consumers and Stakeholders accept New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) in Food Production?

open access: yesEuroChoices, EarlyView.
Summary New Genomic Techniques (NGTs) can be an important tool to achieve the goals set out in the European Green Deal like food security, environmental sustainability and climate change adaptation. However, the success of NGT‐derived products in the market depends on their acceptance by consumers and stakeholders.

El Niño-Driven Changes in Zooplankton Community Structure in an Amazonian Tropical Estuarine Ecosystem (Taperaçu, Northern Brazil)

open access: yesCoasts
Given the high sensitivity of small estuaries to environmental changes, the present study aimed to investigate how climate-induced stressors—particularly rainfall and salinity—affect zooplankton community structure in the Amazonian Taperaçu estuary ...

Genetic Optimization of Microalgae for Biohydrogen Production

open access: yes, 2015
Hydrogen is a promising energy carrier that has an important share in the global energy market when produced in conventional ways. Today, most hydrogen production depends on thermochemical processes of fossil sources.

Addressing false negatives and positives in eDNA studies

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA) has revolutionized the study of ecology and biodiversity, enabling species detection without direct observation in the environment. However, the implications of detection errors, specifically false positives and false negatives, are poorly reported in eDNA studies, significantly hindering our understanding of the ...

Co‐Culture of Mammalian Cells and Photosynthetic Microorganisms for Oxygen Supply in Engineered Tissues

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
Continuous 28‐day light exposure alters behaviours of articular cartilage progenitor cells (ACPCs) and mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). Co‐culture with Leptolyngbya and Synechococcus does not adversely affect the chondrogenic capacity of ACPCs over a 28‐day period, in contrast to co‐culture with Chlorella.

Compromised DNA replication in gut cells underlies sensitivity to genotoxic stress in the tardigrade Hypsibius exemplaris

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
DNA damage in the tardigrade Hypsibius exemplaris elicits distinct cellular outcomes depending on replication status. While non‐replicating cells tolerate genotoxic stress, constitutively replicating cells undergo irreversible replication failure upon DNA damage, leading to loss of tissue homeostasis, fat depletion, sterility, and organismal death ...

Extraction of value-added compounds from microalgae

open access: yes, 2017
Microalgae have been proposed as a multiproduct biorefinery feed stock. The algae-based biorefinery concept relies on the complete optimization process from the biomass production to processing and generating different products.

Cosmetic creams with caprylic acid‐based Natural Eutectic Solvents: Stability, rheology and user perception

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 48, Issue 3, Page 578-588, June 2026.
By formulating creams with caprylic acid‐based hydrophobic Natural Eutectic Solvents and assessing their stability, rheological behaviour and sensory properties, this study demonstrates how these systems can act as multifunctional, COSMOS‐compliant ingredients that modulate emulsion characteristics without compromising formulation properties.

Potential of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) as Medium Growth of Chlorella sp for Bioenergy Production [PDF]

open access: yes
Energy is essential and vital aspect for development in Indonesia. Biodiesel has received much attention as renewable energy in recent years according to lack of petroleum energy. One of potential biodiesel is produced from microalgae. Earlier research
