Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was extracted from watermelon rind using acid hydrolysis. MCC can be efficiently used as reinforcement in biofilms and biocomposites. Abstract The increasing accumulation of agricultural waste from watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) represents a substantial environmental concern, particularly in view of the extensive ...

This report describes the preparation of an antibacterial hydrogel sensor from a polyvinyl alcohol/silk fibroin double network, tannic acid‐coated liquid metal, and copper particles, with an ethanol post‐treatment using a multi‐level structural regulation strategy. The obtained hydrogel is evaluated in the context of respiratory monitoring.

Immobilization of antimicrobial core-shell nanospheres onto silicone for prevention of Escherichia coli biofilm formation [PDF]
Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains are among the most frequently isolated microorganisms in urinary tract infections able to colonize the surface of urinary catheters and form biofilms.

Extraction of 2D Cellulose Nanosheets From Natural Cellulose
2D cellulose nanosheets can be selectively extracted from various natural cellulose via precise breaking of their structure using a zwitterion combined solid catalyst. This provides direct evidence of 2D arrangement and challenges the classical fibrillar model, prompting a redefinition of cellulose hierarchy.

Cellulosomal expansin: functionality and incorporation into the complex [PDF]
Additional file 1: Figure S1. Cellulases GH48 and GH9 work in a synergistic manner. The recombinant putative C. clariflavum exoglucanase GH48 and endoglucanase GH9 were used for degradation of PASC (phosphoric acid-swollen cellulose) alone or combined ...

First attempt at using a synthetic diet in short‐lived killifish, a vertebrate model of ageing
Abstract Diet standardization of model organisms is crucial for experimental consistency and repeatability in laboratory research, yet laboratory fish often lack species‐specific, open‐formula standardized diets. This study aims to address this gap by testing the effect of macronutrient content on the performance of Nothobranchius furzeri, an ...

PREPARATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE (MCC) [PDF]
Cotton linters were hydrolyzed with different concentrations of HCl (2.5-15%) to prepare microcrystalline cellulose. Infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis were used to follow the effect of hydrolysis on the molecular structure of the produced ...
