Design of a cricket microrobot
Proceedings 2000 ICRA. Millennium Conference. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation. Symposia Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37065), 2002Our goal is to develop an autonomous robot that will fit within a two-inch cube and will provide locomotion by walking and jumping. The robot is based-on the kinematics of a cricket. It is actuated by braided pneumatic actuators with compressed air provided by an on-board compressor. The air can be distributed by an array of actuated MEMS valves.

A microrobotic system for colonoscopy
Proceedings of International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002Colonoscopy is an important procedure for the diagnosis of various pathologies, in particular cancer of the colon and of the rectum, the second most malignant tumor in industrialized countries. At present however, colonoscopy is a procedure often painful for the patient and complex for the doctor.

Bacterial microsystems and microrobots
Biomedical Microdevices, 2012Microorganisms and specifically motile bacteria have been recently added to the list of micro-actuators typically considered for the implementation of microsystems and microrobots. Such trend has been motivated by the fact these microorganisms are self-powered actuators with overall sizes at the lower end of the micrometer range and which have proven ...
