Calibration of Microscopic Traffic Simulation Models
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2007A mathematical framework and a solution approach are presented for the simultaneous calibration of the demand and supply parameters and inputs to microscopic traffic simulation models as well as a large-scale application emphasizing practical issues.

Microscopic Modeling of Traffic Signal Operations
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2009Currently, there are three different methods to model traffic signal operations in microscopic simulation models: the simulation model's controller emulator, hardware-in-the-loop simulation, and software-in-the-loop simulation. Although all three methods can be based on the same industry standard code, their different implementations suggest potential

A Microscopic CA Model of Traffic Flow?
2018Cellular automaton (CA) models of traffic flow are typically constructed to reproduce macroscopic features of traffic flow. Here, a few thoughts based on real car-following data are presented that show how to construct a discrete time/discrete space microscopic model of traffic flow.

Microscopic Modeling of Synchronized Traffic
2003Based on a recently proposed cellular automaton model for traffic flow essential properties of synchronized traffic like the synchronization of the lanes, the pinning of a synchronized region at an onramp and the propagation of a wide jam through synchronized traffic are analyzed.

Validation of stochastic traffic flow model with microscopic traffic simulation
2011 IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, 2011Traffic congestion in urban areas is posing many challenges, and a traffic flow model that accurately predicts traffic conditions can be useful in responding to them. With the limitation of infrastructure and the difficulty for real world experiment, traffic simulation is a good tool for the validation and future potential applications of the traffic ...

Microscopic Traffic Simulation: Models and Application
2006Microscopic traffic simulation is an important tool for traffic analysis, particularly in the presence of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). In this paper we describe the main components of a microscopic traffic simulation model and illustrate the discussion with examples drawn from our experience with a microscopic traffic simulation tool ...

Pattern Formation in Traffic Microscopic Model
2009The behavior of vehicle following model was investigated in the paper from the point of view of non-linear dynamics. When the mean density of the traffic flow exceeds some critical limit the formation of stable dissipative structures can be observed. This pattern-producing system shows further properties typical of complex system as well.

A Microscopic Model for Lane-Less Traffic
IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems, 2019In this paper, a new model is introduced for traffic on broad roads, where the drivers do not follow lane-discipline. For both longitudinal and lateral motions, the driver reactions are assumed to be influenced by possibly a number of vehicles, obstacles, and unmodeled entities in visibility cones to the front and to the sides of each vehicle.

Multi-Vehicle Tracking Using Microscopic Traffic Models
IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2019In this paper, the multi-vehicle tracking problem is revisited, with greater consideration being given to the interactions between vehicles. Traditionally, algorithms for tracking multiple vehicles in the multi-lane case assume that vehicles move independently of one another and that longitudinal and lateral vehicle dynamics are mutually independent ...

Toward Benchmarking of Microscopic Traffic Flow Models
Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2003Several microscopic traffic flow models were tested with a publicly available data set. The task was to predict the travel times between several observers along a one-lane rural road, given as boundary conditions the flow into this road and the flow out of it.
