Advancing Planar Magnetic Microswimmers: Swimming, Channel Navigation, and Surface Motion

2024 21st International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots (UR)
Planar magnetic microswimmers are well-suited for in vivo biomedical applications due to their cost-effective mass production through standard photolithography techniques.

Optimal navigation of magnetic artificial microswimmers in blood capillaries with deep reinforcement learning

The Physics of Fluids
Biomedical applications, such as targeted drug delivery, microsurgery, and sensing, rely on reaching precise areas within the body in a minimally invasive way.

Optimal strokes for axisymmetric microswimmers

The European Physical Journal E, 2009
We present a theory for low-Reynolds-number axisymmetric swimmers and a general strategy for the computation of strokes of maximal efficiency. An explicit equation characterizing optimal strokes is derived, and numerical strategies to obtain solutions are discussed.

Manipulating chiral microswimmers in a channel

Physical Review E, 2014
We numerically simulate the diffusion of overdampd pointlike Janus particles along narrow two-dimensional periodically corrugated channels with reflecting walls. The self-propulsion velocity of the particle is assumed to rotate subject to an intrinsic bias modeled by a torque.

Actin-based propulsion of a microswimmer

Physical Review E, 2006
A simple hydrodynamic model of actin-based propulsion of microparticles in dilute cell-free cytoplasmic extracts is presented. Under the basic assumption that actin polymerization at the particle surface acts as a force dipole, pushing apart the load and the free (nonanchored) actin tail, the propulsive velocity of the microparticle is determined as a ...
