The Isolated Brain Microvessel: A Versatile Experimental Model of the Blood-Brain Barrier

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2020
A versatile experimental model for the investigation of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), including the neuro-vascular unit, is the isolated brain microvessel preparation.

Evans blue dye-enhanced imaging of the brain microvessels using spectral focusing coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
We performed dye-enhanced imaging of mouse brain microvessels using spectral focusing coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (SF-CARS) microscopy. The resonant signals from C-H stretching in forward CARS usually show high background intensity in tissues ...

Generation of Self‐Organizing Macrovascular Constructs by Bioprinting Human iPSC‐Derived Mesodermal Progenitor Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vascularization remains a major obstacle in tissue engineering. Here, we introduce a bioprinting strategy to generate centimeter‐scale, self‐organizing “mother vessel” constructs from iPSC‐derived hiMPCs. By optimizing bioink composition, printing was accomplished in a single‐step approach. Within one week, hiMPCs differentiated into both CD31+

Precise Cerebral Vascular Atlas in Stereotaxic Coordinates of Whole Mouse Brain

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2017
Understanding amazingly complex brain functions and pathologies requires a complete cerebral vascular atlas in stereotaxic coordinates. Making a precise atlas for cerebral arteries and veins has been a century-old objective in neuroscience and ...

Intrinsically Mitochondria‐Targeting Nanozyme via Coordination‐Assembly of Natural Quercetin for Cascade Antioxidant Therapy of Cerebral Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers that quercetin naturally targets mitochondria. By coordinating quercetin with Fe3+, we engineer an ultrasmall cascade nanozyme (MCN) with superoxide dismutase‐catalase activities. MCN crosses the damaged blood–brain barrier, scavenges mitochondrial ROS, prevents mitochondrial DNA leakage, and blocks the cGAS‐STING pathway, thereby ...

Role of interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 in morphological and functional changes of the blood–brain barrier in hypertriglyceridemia

open access: yesFluids and Barriers of the CNS, 2023
Background Hypertriglyceridemia is closely linked to atherosclerosis related inflammatory processes and blood–brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction. Using apolipoprotein B-100 (APOB-100) transgenic mice, an animal model of chronic hypertriglyceridemia, we ...

Monoamine Oxidase Activity in the Cerebral Vasculature: Comparison between Fresh Microvessels from Different Structures and Cell Cultures Derived from Microvessels

open access: yes, 1984
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity was studied in various preparations of porcine brain microvessels to explore further the role of this enzyme in the blood–brain barrier to catecholamines.

One‐Step Preparation of Lanthanide‐Doped Polyurea Multicolor Microspheres for Versatile Fluorescent Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lanthanide‐doped polyurea microspheres are prepared via a facile one‐step precipitation polymerization. They exhibit strong hydrogen‐bonding and coordination interactions with excellent properties, including multicolor emission, high quantum yield (75.3%), remarkable stability, redispersibility, and biocompatibility.
