CW Mid-infrared NH3 Lasers

2020
This thesis describes a series of experiments that were undertaken to extend the limits of output power and wavelength coverage of optically pumped mid-infrared lasers. Initially, two new CW Raman lasers operating at wavelengths of 11.5 and 12.5 pm were developed.

Crystalline Mid-Infrared Lasers

2007
A survey of the well-established as well as newly emerging ion-doped crystalline lasers, operating in the mid-IR spectral range between 2 and 5 µm, is presented. The review includes rare-earth- and transition-metal-based ionic crystals, as well as color-center lasers.

Mid-Infrared Raman Fiber Lasers

2017
Stimulated Raman scattering has long been used to bridge the gap between the rare-earth emission bands. Since the Raman gain spectrum is fixed solely by the fiber material and the pump wavelength, these sources can also be designed to operate in the MIR spectral region to meet the current application needs in medicine, the defence & security, and ...

Mid-infrared laser reflectance of moist soils

Applied Optics, 1993
The effect of varying moisture content on the mid-infrared (9-11-µm) laser backscatter reflectance of different soils was investigated experimentally. Total reflectance was separated into a diffuse and a coherent component. Consistent with observations in the visible and near-infrared spectral regimes, the diffuse mid-infrared reflectance values ...

Highly efficient mid-infrared dysprosium fiber laser

Optics Letters, 2016
A new, highly efficient and power scalable pump scheme for 3 μm class fiber lasers is presented. Using the free-running 2.8 μm emission from an Er3+-doped fluoride fiber laser to directly excite the upper laser level of the H13/26→H15/26 transition of the Dy3+ ion, output at 3.04 μm was produced with a record slope efficiency of 51%.

Mid-infrared Quantum Cascade Lasers

2006
As a result of continual evolution of active region design, quantum cascade lasers have achieved unprecedented levels of performance for solid state sources in the 5-12µm region. QCLs also offer unique possibilities for the development of a new class of devices exploiting strong intersubband optical nonlinearities.
