GD-1 and the Milky Way Starless Subhalos [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Measurements of the GD-1 star stream velocity distribution within $\pm$3 degrees of the centerline find a total line of sight velocity spread of 5-6 km/s in the well measured $\phi_1=$ [-30, 0] region (Valluri25). The velocity spread is far above the $\sim$2-3 km/s of a dissolved globular cluster in a smooth galactic potential. The dynamical heating of

Exploration of Half‐Cycle Length of Converging Circular Wavy Duct with Diverging‐Outlet: Turbulent Water Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Increasing half‐cycles intensifies turbulence due to enhanced vortex interactions and flow separation at the diverged‐outlets. Longer wavy ducts are shown to increase flow acceleration, resulting in greater output velocities and more turbulent‐kinetic‐energy production. Wave‐period plays a crucial role in determining turbulent intensity, with amplitude

The Age–Velocity Dispersion Relations of the Galactic Disk as Revealed by the LAMOST-Gaia Red Clump Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using nearly 230,000 red clump stars selected from LAMOST and Gaia, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of the stellar age–velocity dispersion relations (AVRs) for various disk populations, within 5.0 ≤ R ≤ 15.0 kpc and ∣ Z ∣ ≤ 3.0 kpc.

Making action-angle disc models for Gaia [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
A brief review of recent work. I describe dynamical modelling of the Milky Way using action-angle coordinates. I explain what action-angle coordinates are, and what progress has been made in the past few years to ensuring they can be used in reasonably realistic Galactic potentials.

Dynamical modelling of the Milky Way Bar/Bulge

open access: yes, 2018
I review the recent progresses on the properties of the Galactic bar and bulge, and the major theoretical models and techniques to understand the Milky Way bulge. Despite these recent advances, a complete bulge formation model that explains the full kinematics and metallicity distribution is still not fully understood.

Sustained Vaccine Exposure Elicits More Rapid, Consistent, and Broad Humoral Immune Responses to Multivalent Influenza Vaccines

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an injectable polymer‐nanoparticle hydrogel depot platform for delivering multivalent influenza vaccines which induces stronger and more durable immune responses. The technology provides broader protection, including against heterologous and potential pandemic strains (H5N1, H7N9, H9N2), and enhances the effectiveness of commercial ...

A New Rarity Assessment of the “Disk of Satellites”: The Milky Way System Is the Exception Rather Than the Rule in the ΛCDM Cosmology

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The majority of satellite galaxies around the Milky Way (MW) show disk-like distributions (the disk of satellites; DoS), which is a small-scale problem of the lambda cold dark matter cosmology.

FUS Selectively Facilitates circRNAs Packing into Small Extracellular Vesicles within Hypoxia Neuron

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study aimed to unravel the role of FUS in the loading of functional circRNAs into neuronal sEVs under hypoxic conditions, which involves their aggregations in SGs and specific interaction between the FUS Zf_RanBP domain to regulate circRNA sorting in sEVs.

Efficient and Accurate Force Replay in Cosmological-baryonic Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We construct time-evolving gravitational potential models for a Milky Way–mass galaxy from the FIRE-2 suite of cosmological-baryonic simulations using basis function expansions.

On the dynamics of tidal streams in the Milky Way galaxy

open access: yes, 2010
We present a brief history of Galactic astrophysics, and explain the origin of halo substructure in the Galaxy. We motivate our study of tidal streams by highlighting the tight constraints that analysis of the trajectories of tidal streams can place on the form of the Galactic potential.
