Additional Evidence for the Existence of a Primordial Disk System

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The origin of very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] ≤ −2.0) stars on planar orbits has been the subject of great attention since their first discovery. However, prior to the release of the Gaia BP/RP (XP) spectra and large photometric samples such as SkyMapper ...

The Milky Way's bright satellites as an apparent failure of LCDM

open access: yes, 2012
We use the Aquarius simulations to show that the most massive subhalos in galaxy-mass dark matter halos in LCDM are grossly inconsistent with the dynamics of the brightest Milky Way dwarf spheroidal galaxies.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

A dynamical model of the local cosmic expansion

open access: yes, 2014
We combine the equations of motion that govern the dynamics of galaxies in the local volume with Bayesian techniques in order to fit orbits to published distances and velocities of galaxies within $\sim 3$ Mpc. We find a Local Group (LG) mass $2.3\pm 0.7\

GAS DYNAMICS IN THE MILKY WAY: A LOW PATTERN SPEED MODEL [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2016
ABSTRACT We present gas flow models for the Milky Way based on high-resolution grid-based hydrodynamical simulations. The basic galactic potential we use is from an N-body model constrained by the density of red clump giants in the Galactic bulge.

Anchorage‐independent and faster growth in clonal population from UV‐irradiated NER‐deficient cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UV‐irradiated cells expressing a DDB2 mutant protein unable to interact with PCNA (DDB2PCNA‐) form clones able to grow without anchorage. Different experimental approaches reveal heterogeneity in cell cycle regulation and drug response within these clones, emphasizing the crucial role of the DDB2‐PCNA interaction in preventing cellular transformation ...

Galactic kinematics with modified Newtonian dynamics

open access: yes, 2009
We look for observational signatures that could discriminate between Newtonian and modified Newtonian (MOND) dynamics in the Milky Way, in view of the advent of large astrometric and spectroscopic surveys.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

On the dynamics of tidal streams in the Milky Way galaxy

open access: yes, 2010
We present a brief history of Galactic astrophysics, and explain the origin of halo substructure in the Milky Way Galaxy. We motivate our study of the dynamics of tidal streams in our Galaxy by highlighting the tight constraints that analysis of the trajectories of tidal streams can place on the form of the Galactic potential.

Dynamical evidence of the age-metallicity relation in the Milky Way disk [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2006
We studied the relationship between the average stellar abundance of several elements and the orbital evolution of stars in the neighbourhood of the Sun, using both observational data for 325 late-type dwarfs in a volume-complete sample and simulations of the orbital diffusion.
