Association of ACAG with short-term mortality in liver failure patients: a retrospective analysis based on the MIMIC-IV database

open access: yesScientific Reports
Traditional scoring systems are challenging for early diagnosis and intervention in liver failure. While albumin-corrected anion gap (ACAG) predicts adverse outcomes in various conditions, its effectiveness in liver failure remains unclear.

Association between nutritional status and sepsis-induced coagulopathy: a multicenter retrospective cohort study

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundMalnutrition and sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC) are common and critical complications in septic patients. This study aimed to evaluate the association between nutritional status and SIC, as well as their combined effects on clinical outcomes

Wenzi 文子 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The Wenzi 文子 refers to two separate, but related, Chinese texts, each of which is titled "Wenzi." The proto-Wenzi (a named coined by Paul van Els) is known through a bamboo-strip manuscript found in the "Dingzhou Tomb" near the village of Bajiaolang 八角廊 ...

Finding novel vulnerabilities of hypomorphic BRCA1 alleles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Synthetic lethality screens performed to identify novel vulnerabilities often model complete gene loss, thereby overlooking patient‐derived hypomorphic mutations. In this study, we have performed genome‐wide CRISPR screens on BRCA1 hypomorphic mutations, showing BRCA1I26A behaves like wild‐type, while BRCA1R1699Q mimics deficiency. Furthermore, we have

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

The relationship between hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis: a retrospective analysis of the MIMIC-IV database

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background In recent years, the hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score has emerged as a potential marker of immunological and nutritional status.

The Effect of Dexmedetomidine on Mortality in Patients with Acute Pancreatitis: A Retrospective Propensity Score Matching Analysis

open access: yesThe Turkish Journal of Gastroenterology
Background/Aims: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a prevalent gastrointestinal disorder, with its frequency rising annually, and the fatality rate in severe cases reaching 38%. Dexmedetomidine (DEX), possessing analgesic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Beta-Blockers and mortality in patients with malignancy and cardiovascular disease: an analysis of the MIMIC-IV database

open access: yesBMC Cancer
To evaluate the impact of β-blockers on 28-day and 180-day mortality in ICU patients with malignancies and to assess their effects on tumor-related biomarkers. This study utilized data from the MIMIC-IV database. A doubly robust estimation approach combining propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was ...

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.
