Simulation and optimization approach for uncertainty-based short-term planning in open pit mines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2018
Accuracy in predictions leads to better planning with a minimum of opportunity lost. In open pit mining, the complexity of operations, coupled with a highly uncertain and dynamic production environment, limit the accuracy of predictions and force a ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Evaluating Mine Design Alternatives for Social Risks using Discrete Choice Analysis

open access: yes, 2021
As with other engineering design tasks, mine design involves setting design objectives and constraints (the feasible solution space) and finding the optimal design alternative.

Direct block scheduling under marketing uncertainties

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal
Mineral projects are composed of geological, operational and market uncertainties, and reducing these uncertainties is one of the objectives of engineering. Most surveys assess the impact of geological and operational uncertainties on the mining planning.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Efficient Mine Microseismic Monitoring

open access: yes, 2005
During the past 20 years, the microseismic technique has grown from a pure research means for rockburst study to a basic industrial tool for daily safety monitoring at rockburst-prone mines.

A Systems Engineering Approach to Incorporate ESG Risks and Opportunities in Early-Stage Mine Design and Planning

open access: yesMining
This study examines how ESG risks and opportunities can be systematically identified, assessed, and incorporated into the early-stage design and planning of natural resources projects. The focus for this study will be on the mining activities required to

A Constraint Programming approach to solve the clustering problem in open-pit mine planning [PDF]

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal
Since the open-pit precedence-constrained production scheduling problem is an NP-hard problem, solving it is always a challenging task, especially from a long-term perspective because a mineral deposit containing millions of blocks would require several ...
