Targeting Lipopolysaccharide Transport Induces Membrane Lipid Remodeling and Sensitizes Acinetobacter baumannii to Colistin Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies C4 as a lead inhibitor of the Lpt system. Notably, C4 potentiates colistin activity by disrupting LPS transport and remodeling phospholipid homeostasis, revealing a functional interplay between the Lpt and Mla systems. These findings establish a mechanistic link between Lpt inhibition and membrane lipid remodeling, positioning Lpt–

Nemo-like kinase disrupts nuclear import and drives TDP43 mislocalization in ALS

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Investigation
Cytoplasmic transactive response DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP43) mislocalization and aggregation are pathological hallmarks of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, the initial cellular insults that lead to TDP43 mislocalization remain unclear. In

eEF1G Orchestrates Translation to Ensure Meiotic Progression in Transcriptionally Quiescent Spermatocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
eEF1G supports translation elongation of meiotic mRNAs in transcriptionally quiescent leptotene and zygotene spermatocytes. Its depletion in germ cells causes meiotic arrest at the zygotene stage, with defective homologous synapsis and unstable recombination intermediates.

The effect of pH alterations on TDP-43 in a cellular model of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

open access: yesBiochemistry and Biophysics Reports
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is the most common neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons. The pathophysiology of ALS is not well understood but TDP-43 proteinopathy (aggregation and mislocalization) is one of the major phenomena described.

Functional Suppression of SCAP Triggers Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress‐Dependent Ferroptosis by Impairing Cholesterol Metabolism in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel GC therapy targeting cholesterol homeostasis. Inhibiting the SCAP sterol‐sensing domain causes lethal ER stress via cholesterol accumulation, paradoxically forcing continuous synthesis that triggers ferroptosis. The findings link sterol sensing, metabolic dysregulation, and ferroptosis, establishing an anti‐cancer paradigm ...

Hardware‐Attentive Programmable Fourier Ptychography Enables Task‐Adaptive Label‐Free Virtual Staining

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Task‐adaptive programmable optics enables label‐free virtual staining through optical‐attention‐guided acquisition and reconstruction. By optimizing wavelength, illumination angle, exposure time, and imaging depth, the framework learns task‐relevant optical measurements, generating clinically interpretable virtual stains with improved fidelity, non ...

Mislocalization of the exitatory amino-acid transporters (EAATs) in human astrocytoma and non-astrocytoma cancer cells: effect of the cell confluence

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Science, 2012
Background Astrocytomas are cancers of the brain in which high levels of extracellular glutamate plays a critical role in tumor growth and resistance to conventional treatments.

ApoE‐ and Cfh‐deficient mice exhibit structural and molecular features of human early–intermediate retinal degeneration

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration (AMD) involves lipid dysregulation and complement overactivation. Here, we characterize a double‐knockout ApoE−/−/Cfh−/− mouse as a model of early–intermediate retinal degeneration. These mice exhibit retinal pigment epithelium thinning, Bruch's membrane thickening, lipid accumulation, enhanced C5b‐9 deposition ...

Keep it on the edge: The post-mitotic midbody as a polarity signal unit

open access: yesCommunicative & Integrative Biology, 2017
The maintenance of the epithelial architecture during tissue proliferation is achieved by apical positioning of the midbody after cell division. Consequently, midbody mislocalization contributes to epithelial architecture disruption, a fundamental event ...

RNA‐centric world of retroviruses: unravelling the molecular strategies of genomic RNA packaging

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Retroviruses constitute a unique group of RNA viruses that have profoundly influenced both evolutionary trajectories and biomedical research. Their ability to reverse transcribe and integrate into host genomes has shaped genomic architecture across species and contributed to our understanding of oncogenes, gene regulation, and RNA biology ...
