Nutrient and stoichiometric time series measurements of decomposing coarse detritus in freshwaters
Abstract Decomposition of coarse detritus (e.g., dead organic matter larger than ~1 mm such as leaf litter or animal carcasses) in freshwater ecosystems is well described in terms of mass loss, particularly as rates that compress mass loss into one number (e.g., a first‐order decay coefficient, or breakdown rate, “k”); less described are temporal ...

Predation on sentinel prey increases with increasing latitude in Brassica‐dominated agroecosystems
Arthropod predation on herbivore prey is higher at lower latitudes in natural ecosystems, yet it remains unknown whether this pattern persists in human‐dominated ecosystems, where frequent disturbances often alter local predator community structure. Here, we examined predation on model caterpillars and community structure in a human‐dominated organic ...

Characteristics of lightning‐induced voltages based on experimental data
Abstract This paper presents an analysis of 64 lightning‐induced voltage waveforms recorded in an experimental system implemented in the campus of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. The voltages were measured on a 10 m high, 2.7 km long un‐energized overhead line consisting of two conductors installed on 6 m crossarms. One of the conductors had surge

Interspecific competition constrains local abundance in highly suitable areas
Sites with high environmental suitability for species’ occurrence, in terms of abiotic conditions, may hold populations with higher local abundances by increasing reproductive and survival rates and decreasing extinction rate. Interspecific competition, however, may affect this relationship.
