p53 Regulates Mitochondrial Respiration
Science, 2006The energy that sustains cancer cells is derived preferentially from glycolysis. This metabolic change, the Warburg effect, was one of the first alterations in cancer cells recognized as conferring a survival advantage. Here, we show that p53, one of the most frequently mutated genes in cancers, modulates the balance between the ...

Mitochondrial respiration measurement
Protocol Exchange, 20071. Isolate mitochondria by gently crushing 40 to 80 flies in a 10 ml Kontes homogenizer with 7 strokes of the pestle in 3 ml homogenization buffer consisting of 225 mM mannitol, 75 mM sucrose, 10 mM MOPS, 1 mM EGTA, 0.5% BSA, pH 7.2 at 4°C 38. 2. Filter the extracts through 8 layers of cheese cloth, and then centrifuge at 300 x G for 3 min in a Beckman

Monoamine Oxidase and Mitochondrial Respiration
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1999Abstract : Mitochondrial defects encompassing complexes I‐IV of the electron transport chain characterize a relatively large number of neurodegenerative diseases. The relationships between mitochondrial lesions and recently described genetic alterations have not yet been defined.

Uncoupling Mitochondrial Respiration for Diabesity
Rejuvenation Research, 2016Until recently, the mechanism of adaptive thermogenesis was ascribed to the expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) in brown and beige adipocytes. UCP1 is known to catalyze a proton leak of the inner mitochondrial membrane, resulting in uncoupled oxidative metabolism with no production of adenosine triphosphate and increased energy expenditure.

Parathyroid Hormone and Mitochondrial Respiration
Endocrinology, 1964Parathyroid hormone added in vitro stimulates anion-dependent respiration in isolated liver and kidney mitochondria. This response depends upon Mg++ (or Mn++) and substrate and is inhibited by uncouplers and inhibitors of electron transport but not by oligomycin or triethyltin, inhibitors of oxidative phosphorylation.

Nek4 regulates mitochondrial respiration and morphology
The FEBS Journal, 2022Nek4 is a serine/threonine kinase which has been implicated in primary cilia stabilization, DNA damage response, autophagy and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition. The role of Nek4 in cancer cell survival and chemotherapy resistance has also been shown. However, the precise mechanisms by which Nek4 operates remain to be elucidated.

Mitochondrial regulation of tissue respiration
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1959Mitochondrial and nuclear counts and homogenate and washed mitochondrial qO2 determinations were made on kidney cortex, liver and brain of albino rats. Homogenate qO2 was inversely related to mitochondrial count in the three tissues, but directly related to cellularity and to O2 uptake per mitochondrion.

Cellular Control of Mitochondrial Respiration
1976Oxygen delivery to tissues is essential for maintaining the oxygen tension at a level adequate to sustain the cellular energy supply via oxidative phosphorylation. The question is then how the cell regulates oxidative phosphorylation and, through this, the rate of oxygen consumption.

Varicocele Negatively Affects Sperm Mitochondrial Respiration
Urology, 2015To evaluate the effect of varicocele on oxidative stress, sperm mitochondrial respiratory efficiency, sperm morphology, and semen parameters.A total of 20 patients with varicocele and 20 normozoospermic subjects without varicocele (control group) were recruited from a medical center for reproductive biology.
