Inhibition of de-energized mitochondrial swelling by cyclophilin inhibitors.

open access: yes, 2013
A) Mitochondrial swelling monitored by following light scattering, (a.u. = arbitrary units). Mitochondria were exposed to 300 µM Ca2+ and non-electrophoretic calcium uptake into mitochondria was mediated by the calcium ionophore A23187.

Acid‐Responsive Nanobot‐Integrated Core‐Shell Microneedles Reprogram the Degenerative Annulus Fibrosus Microenvironment Through Epigenetic Suppression of Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An acid‐responsive core‐shell microneedle system normalizes the degenerative annulus fibrosus microenvironment by consuming pathological H+, generating O2, and providing NIR‐amplified redox buffering. Mechanistically, it epigenetically suppresses ferroptosis via DNMT3A‐dependent methylation of the ATF3 promoter, relieving ATF3‐mediated repression of ...

Inhibitors of the mitochondrial permeability transition reduce ammonia-induced cell swelling in cultured astrocytes

open access: yes, 2009
Ammonia is the principal neurotoxin implicated in the pathogenesis of hepatic encephalopathy, and astrocytes are the neural cells predominantly affected in this condition.

Developmental Environmental Chronotoxicity by Polystyrene Nanoplastics Exacerbates High‐Fat Diet‐Induced Pediatric MAFLD Through Circadian Disruption and Mitochondrial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polystyrene nanoplastics exacerbate high‐fat diet‐induced metabolic dysfunction in an age‐dependent manner. Juvenile mice exhibit greater susceptibility, characterized by circadian disruption, impaired mitochondrial function, reduced energy metabolism, and enhanced hepatic lipid accumulation.

Modulation of the TGF‐β/Smad Signaling Pathway by a Bioactive Oxidized Polygonati Rhizoma Polysaccharide Crosslinked Chitosan Hydrogel as Therapeutic Carrier for Parkinson's Disease Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable, self‐healing COPRP hydrogel integrates structurally defined oxidized Polygonati rhizoma polysaccharide with carboxymethyl chitosan through dynamic Schiff‐base crosslinking. The bioactive matrix scavenges reactive oxygen species, suppresses neuroinflammation, protects dopaminergic neurons, and supports sustained levodopa release.

Swelling of mitochondria by the platelet antiaggregating agent ticlopidine

open access: yes, 1986
Our studies on the effects of ticlopidine on mitochondrial functions led us to an intriguing observation related to its interaction with mitochondrial membranes.

ROS/pH‐Responsive Phenylboronic Acid–Chitosan Nanoparticles Improve Silymarin‐Mediated Hepatoprotection After Hepatectomy With Gut‐Liver Axis‐Associated Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioactive phenylboronic acid–chitosan nanoparticles enable responsive silymarin delivery for post‐hepatectomy liver protection. The nanoplatform integrates antioxidant and antibacterial functions, improves hepatic recovery, and is associated with coordinated shifts in gut microbiota, metabolites, cytokines, and hepatic proteomic pathways, suggesting a ...

Asymmetric Structure‐Driven Functional Synergy: A Multistimuli‐Activated Janus Nanomotor for Self‐Amplifying NO Cascade Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The Janus nanomotors leverage an “asymmetric structure‐driven functional synergy” strategy to orchestrate spatiotemporally coordinated catalytic functions, in situ self‐amplifying NO generation, and deep tumor penetration, thereby enabling controllable, sustained, and uniform NO generation within the tumor microenvironment.

Persistent Zn2+ Influx‐Mediated Deacetylation of ANXA2 Regulates the “Zn2+‐Autophagic Flux” and Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zinc transporter SLC39A14 sustains intracellular Zn2+ levels to activate SIRT3‑dependent ANXA2 deacetylation at K302. This modification weakens ANXA2‑mTOR binding and releases autophagic‑flux suppression in nucleus pulposus cells. Dysregulated Zn2+ homeostasis disrupts this axis to drive intervertebral disc degeneration.

Mitochondrial swelling induced by Ca2+ and inorganic phosphate and its related phenomena

open access: yes
Some investigations have been done on the relationships between the swelling-shrinkage change, oxygen consumption and state of oxidation-reduction of pyridine nucleotides of mitochondria, and between the swelling-shrinkage change of mitochondrial ...
