Mixed-function oxygenase in juvenile rainbow trout exposed to hexachlorobenzene or 3, 3′, 4, 4′-tetrachlorobiphenyl

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1991
1. 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB 77), but not hexachlorobenzene, induced liver microsomal cytochrome P-450 (Cyt P-450), ethoxycoumarin-O-deethylase (ECOD) and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) in rainbow trout. Maximum induction was observed in a PCB 77 injected group of fish (1.0 mg/kg, i.p.

EFFECTS OF 7,12-DIMETHYLBENZ[a]ANTHRACENE ON IMMUNE FUNCTION AND MIXED-FUNCTION OXYGENASE ACTIVITY IN THE EUROPEAN STARLING

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1994
AbstractImmune function and hepatic MFO activity were examined in adult and nestling starlings administered a synthetic PAH, 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA). Methods used to examine the starling immune system included immunopa-thology, macrophage phagocytosis, lymphocyte blastogenesis to concanavalin A, and hemagglutination of sheep erythrocytes (

Regulation of the Adrenal and Gonadal Microsomal Mixed Function Oxygenases of Steroid Hormone Biosynthesis

Annual Review of Physiology, 1983
The microsomal steroidogenic enzymes catalyze reactions important in determining both the quantity and the identity of glandular secretory prod ucts. By determining cell function, changes in the rates of these reactions can effect differentiation. The recognition of these control points in steroid hormone biosynthesis lagged because major research ...

Hepatic microsomal mixed function oxygenase: Enzyme multiplicity for the metabolism of carcinogens to DNA-binding metabolites

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1974
Microsome-mediated metabolic activation of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and benzo[a]-pyrene (BP), as determined by the in vitro formation of DNA binding metabolites, was studied, using hepatic microsomes from untreated, phenobarbital (PB)-treated and 3-methylcholanthrene (MC)-treated male rats.

KINETICS OF MIXED FUNCTION OXYGENASE INDUCTION AND RETENE EXCRETION IN RETENE-EXPOSED RAINBOW TROUT (ONCORHYNCHUS MYKISS)

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1999
AbstractThe polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon 7-isopropyl−1-methylphenanthrene (retene) induces mixed function oxygenase (MFO) activity of fish. Bile levels of retene and its metabolite(s) were measured in relation to exposure time, exposure concentration, and induction of MFO activity.

Mixed Function Oxygenase Induction in Pre- and Post-Spawn Herring (Clupea pallasi) by Petroleum Hydrocarbons

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Pharmacology, Toxicology and Endocrinology, 1997
We compared the uptake of water-accommodated fractions of Alaska North Slope crude oil in pre- and post-spawn herring (Clupea pallasi) and the resulting induction of mixed function oxygenase activity. Both groups of herring accumulated significant quantities of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in muscle tissue.
