This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Time Domain Vibration Analysis of an Ice Shelf
A method is presented to calculate the vibrations of an ice shelf floating in shallow water under different boundary conditions. One condition is that there is no flux, which reduces all calculations and the other is that there is no pressure at the ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Modal analysis of a small vertical axis wind turbine (Type DARRIEUS) [PDF]
This paper reports a brief study on free vibration analysis for determining parameters such as natural frequencies and mode shapes for vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) for an urban application.

Beam shaping using Gaussian beam modes [PDF]
A beam shaping method is presented where a diffractive optical element (DOE) is designed by optimizing the complex mode coefficient weights of a set of Gaussian beam modes. This method is compared with the more standard unidirectional approach. Differential evolution is used for the optimization in both the unidirectional and Gaussian beam mode ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Experimental Modal Test of the Laboratory Model of Steel Truss Structure
The experimental modal analysis is often used to validate the accuracy of dynamic numerical models. It is also a good tool to obtain valuable information about current condition of the structures that could help to determine residual lifetime.

Unstable spiral modes in disk-shaped galaxies [PDF]
The mechanisms for the maintenance and the excitation of trailing spiral modes of density waves in diskshaped galaxies, as proposed by Lin in 1969 and by Mark recently, are substantiated by an analysis of the gas-dynamical model of the galaxy. The self-excitation of the unstable mode in caused by waves propagating outwards from the corotation circle ...

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Modes of Feeding in Aggregations of Barnacles and the Shape of Aggregations
The interactions between the form of a barnacle aggregation, its flow environment, and the feeding behavior of each individual was determined in unidirectional flows; both models of barnacle aggregations and live barnacles were used. Hill-shaped aggregations of model barnacles captured significantly more particles than flat aggregations.
