Behaviour and design of extruded high-strength aluminium alloy SHS beam-columns

open access: yesSustainable Structures
An extensive study of beam-columns made from 7A04-T6 aluminum alloy in a square hollow section (SHS) configuration is presented in this paper, integrating both experimental and numerical work to study their flexural buckling behaviour.

Degradation mechanisms and modification strategies of nickel-rich NCM cathode in lithium-ion batteries

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
Ni-rich Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese Oxide (NCM) cathode materials have garnered attention for their high specific capacity, but they grapple with issues of cycling stability, thermal performance, and safety.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Adjectival modification and multiple determiners

open access: yes, 2008
The present paper deals with the distribution of the definite determiner and certain related aspects of adjectival modification in Greek DPs. As (1) shows, determiners in Greek DPs precede adjectives and adjectives precede nouns.

Functional Polymers by Post-Polymerization Modification: Concepts, Guidelines, and Applications

open access: yes
In modern polymer science a variety of polymerization methods for the direct synthesis of polymers bearing functional groups are known. However, there is still a large number of functional groups that may either completely prevent polymerization or lead ...

Modification strategies on nickel-based electrocatalysts for energy-efficient anodic reactions

open access: yesNano Research
Electrocatalytic chemical oxidation (ECO) is an energy-efficient anodic reaction alternative to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). ECO lowers the reaction potential and yields higher-value fine chemicals at the anode.

Strategies for Lignin Pretreatment, Decomposition and Modification: A Review

open access: yesJurnal Bahan Alam Terbarukan, 2020
The dependency of chemical industry on nonrenewable sources of energy such as petroleum based carbon feedstock is rising dramatically day to day. Nonetheless, global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions threatens the environment balance and the ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
