Learning modular policies for robotics [PDF]
A promising idea for scaling robot learning to more complex tasks is to use elemental behaviors as building blocks to compose more complex behavior. Ideally, such building blocks are used in combination with a learning algorithm that is able to learn to select, adapt, sequence and co-activate the building blocks.

Studies on mobile robots for all types of terrain [PDF]
In the first part of the paper, the authors present the characteristics of the robots for all types of terrain. In the second part, two categories of robots are proposed: a robot with hybrid locomotion system and a modular robot.

The SMOOTH-Robot: A Modular, Interactive Service Robot [PDF]
The SMOOTH-robot is a mobile robot that—due to its modularity—combines a relatively low price with the possibility to be used for a large variety of tasks in a wide range of domains. In this article, we demonstrate the potential of the SMOOTH-robot through three use cases, two of which were performed in elderly care homes. The robot is designed so that

Automated Reconfiguration of Modular Robots Using Robot Manipulators [PDF]
Self-reconfigurability in modular robots is a challenging task that usually requires complex module designs and algorithms. To make the reconfigurability easier, unpowered permanent magnet-based modules can be reconfigured by anexternal robotic ...

Gait emergence by discrete leg motion period control using contact signals and CPGs
Most living organisms need locomotion to achieve a series of goals, such as eating, escaping, and breeding. In short, locomotion refers to the periodic activities of various parts of the body and their coordination mechanisms, such as walking, jumping ...
