Selection for cacao resistance to Moniliasis assisted by molecular markers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The basidiomycete Moniliophthora roreri, the causal agent of moniliasis, occurs in many cocoa producer countries in South and Central Americas, but not yet in Brazil.

A microsatellite marker for yellow rust resistance in wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Bulk segregant analysis (BSA) was used to identify molecular markers associated with yellow rust disease resistance in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). DNAs isolated from the selected yellow rust tolerant and susceptible F-2 individuals derived from a cross

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Plant breeding with marker-assisted selection in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2014
Over the past three decades, molecular marker studies reached extraordinary advances, especially for sequencing and bioinformatics techniques. Marker-assisted selection became part of the breeding program routines of important seed companies, in ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Analysis of nucleotide diversity in Coffea spp. (W153) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Marker-assisted selection becomes a reality for many crops; in perennial crops, the utilization of molecular markers in breeding programs can speed up genotype selection. However, the most important commercial coffee species - allotetraploid C. arabica -

Thermodynamics of Error Correction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Information processing at the molecular scale is limited by thermal fluctuations. This can cause undesired consequences in copying information since thermal noise can lead to errors that can compromise the functionality of the copy.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

SCREENING OF Lr GENES PROVIDING RESISTANCE TO LEAF RUST IN WHEATH USING MULTIPLEX PCR METHOD

open access: yesTrakya University Journal of Natural Sciences, 2015
Leaf rust is a fungal disease in wheat that causes significant decrease in yield around the world. In Turkey, several genes, including leaf rust-resistant (Lr) Lr9, Lr19, Lr24 and Lr28, have been found to induce disease resistance.

Development of red giant embryo rice by molecular marker-assisted selection

open access: yes上海师范大学学报. 自然科学版, 2017
In this study,we successfully developed a new rice (Oryza Sativa L.) strain of red giant embryo rice "Shangshida No. 10" by hybridizing a normal embryo red rice "Shangshida No. 6" with a giant embryo white rice "Shangshida No.
