Molecular mechanisms of the regulation of ATPase cycle in striated muscle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
New data on the molecular mechanism of the regulation of ATPase cycle by troponin-tropomyosin system have been obtained in reconstructed muscle fibers by using the polarized fluorescence technique, which allowed us following the azimuthal movements of ...

A microscopic description of acid-base equilibrium

open access: yes, 2019
Acid-base reactions are ubiquitous in nature. Understanding their mechanisms is crucial in many fields, from biochemistry to industrial catalysis. Unfortunately, experiments only give limited information without much insight into the molecular behaviour.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Human CD4- invariant NKT lymphocytes regulate graft versus host disease

open access: yesOncoImmunology, 2018
Despite increasing evidence for a protective role of invariant (i) NKT cells in the control of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), the mechanisms underpinning regulation of the allogeneic immune response in humans are not known. In this study, we evaluated

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Molecular recognition in a lattice model: An enumeration study

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the mechanisms underlying selective molecular recognition of single heteropolymers at chemically structured planar surfaces. To this end, we study systems with two-letter (HP) lattice heteropolymers by exact enumeration techniques ...

Molecular Mechanisms of Holoprosencephaly

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism, 1999
Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is the most common developmental defect of the forebrain in humans. Several distinct human genes for holoprosencephaly have now been identified. They include Sonic hedgehog (SHH), ZIC2, and SIX3. Many additional genes involved in forebrain development are rapidly being cloned and characterized in model vertebrate organisms ...
